  1. Complete video guide: How to cut and glue rubbers on a table tennis bat

Reckon any with a curved blade would work nicely. I got the Revolution No.3 scissors and I recall that Donic also produces curved edge scissors
  2. Beginner Friendly Hybrid Rubber

It's semi tacky. OP asked for semi tacky or tacky rubbers with low catapult. The Gear Hyper fits as an option. It's got enough control to be beginner friendly.
  3. Beginner Friendly Hybrid Rubber

Sanwei Gear Hyper would fit the bill for you beautifully I think. If you want a faster, springier alternative to that then the Tibhar Hybrid MX though I'd think that's less beginner friendly
  4. Best rubber under $5?

Oh - I haven't. I don't boost rubbers so would need someone else to try that! :)
  5. What is the best ESN Hybrid rubber for FH?

I'm now a fan of the Tibhar Hybrid MX on the FH. Great spin capabilities and power without too much of the catapult effect. I'll soon try Stiga's DNA Hybrid M Not sure about there ever being a best rubber for anything though! ;)
  6. What is the best ESN Hybrid rubber for FH?

I still rate the Sanwei Gear Hyper very highly and the Sanwei Target National is also a very good hybrid (that I switched too many years back from Tenergy 25). The Gear Hyper is bouncier than the STN without feeling like you're playing with a trampoline in your hand while the STN is much...
  7. Yinhe or Sanwei Balls?

Discovered this thread late - Sanwei issued a statement about 4 years back that they've removed these balls from the market - https://www.facebook.com/SANWEISPORT/posts/sanwei-official-statement-about-abs-tr-balls-and-abs-club-balls/439107003467452/
  8. Best rubber under $5?

The Kokutaku feels softer and a bit more elastic. I feel the Rxton 1 has more speed reserves that more skilled players can get while the Kokutaku 868 Blue is an easy-to-play choice for beginners and advanced beginners. A couple of skilled players in my Stratford, London TT community enjoy using...
  9. Best rubber under $5?

After extensive hours of research and play testing, I settled on Mercury 2 rubbers for my starter builds (for those moving from prebuilds to custom). For those in that camp who need a slightly slower rubber (I've noticed that the Mercury 2 on a Yinhe N11s can be a bit fast for beginners), I tend...
  10. Complete video guide: How to cut and glue rubbers on a table tennis bat

I've finally done a setup with scissors. First time in a long while so I had to start slowly. I've noticed two things that mean I'll pretty much only use scissors for certain occassions. 1. For rubbers with the thin plastic covers on (Typically, Chinese ones), I haven't gotten a perfect cut...
  11. Complete video guide: How to cut and glue rubbers on a table tennis bat

Hah! Thanks for the useful info! Looks like I should now do a Super Complete Guide 😄
  12. Complete video guide: How to cut and glue rubbers on a table tennis bat

Glad it helped motivate you to have a go at it - practice makes perfect 😏
  13. Complete video guide: How to cut and glue rubbers on a table tennis bat

Lol! I probably missed a trick in not having an affiliate link to the rotating cutter thingy (aka lazy Susan for table tennis blades) 😄
  14. Complete video guide: How to cut and glue rubbers on a table tennis bat

With softer sponge rubbers, I've now found that pressing down hard and going with a single pass works better than several smaller cuts. The oil and a fresh blade does help. I'll look to update once I've tried out the scissors - feel free to give me a nudge here in March if I haven't done...
  15. Complete video guide: How to cut and glue rubbers on a table tennis bat

Glue sheets have strong adhesion on the blade so I definitely recommend varnishing the blade, especially if the top layer is a softer wood (rule of thumb = anything light in colour). For OX rubbers, you probably only need a single thin coat of varnish on the blade
