  1. What's the difference between the equipment sold commercially and the equipment used by pros

True, it also depends on how manufactures decide which method will give them the best cost/benefit. The simplest way is using sampling test to decide which lots have the tightest tolerances then give/sell them to professionals. Or they have a proprietary and expensive machines/manufacturing...
  2. What's the difference between the equipment sold commercially and the equipment used by pros

On rubber (or even blade) I think it has to do with top sheet/sponge quality. For commercial the tolerance is larger. For example, Tenergy 9C specs: Speed 13.5, Spin 10.5 Sponge Hardness 36 , we can expect a tolerance of +/- 10 to 15% while for professionals it is much tighter, say 5%. In...
  3. USTTA rating v.s. expected win-rate

Now I think (I hope) I understand both hclnnkhg and brokenball's points. hclnnkhg was just trying to estimate probability of winning/losing with a simple equation while brokenball wants a more accurate equation (sigmoid) that can match real data. However, there is no real data (for example...
  4. USTTA rating v.s. expected win-rate

Same here got my MS in mechanical engineering. and have been practicing engineering for more than 35 years (humm why should I disclose this...?) . Life is not always but sometimes is about numbers.
  5. USTTA rating v.s. expected win-rate

Ok. I got your point. But I believe there is a better curve for us more number-oriented people.
  6. USTTA rating v.s. expected win-rate

I think you misunderstood my comment. I understand all about real life versus approximation. My comment is just that "the curve predicted 100% win for player with 238 points higher" is not a good prediction because real data will not say that. Somebody tells me he is going to beat me 100%...
  7. USTTA rating v.s. expected win-rate

I thought the curve was based on real data?
  8. USTTA rating v.s. expected win-rate

I don't like the curve because to me there is no absolute 100% or 0% in winning probability. There should be a better approximation curve based on existing data from USATT.
  9. Are you a TT-pro ?

Sorry .. I answered "no" but realized you are only interested in anyone with a "yes"
  10. Info on foam rubber/sponge

Sounds like a good idea and I want to try. Where do you buy a good top sheet and what kind of glue you use?
  11. Does a thicker sponge require an additional layer of glue?

1 or 2 layers on blade and 2 on rubbers. This is to remove the glue easier in case I want to reglue.
  12. Frictionless Anti players

Andrea, Great videos! You are a very good anti player. In one of your videos it showed you played against a short pips player who was able to get 2 games from you. What tactics did he play? Is there a full video? I am curious because I am a sp player.
  13. Chuang Chih Yuan

Everyone is unique! Boll achieves more than CCY in table tennis for sure, but he doesn't have the other 2 (coaching and owner of a table tennis center) as the OP suggests. However, Boll is one of the top 10 richest table tennis players in the world (as of 2022), a task that CCY may never be...
  14. Advice to prevent ESN rubber shrinkage?

Yes, you still need an edge tape to protect the blade as rubber alone can't do a good job. The tape I use is a foam tape 6mm wide and 1mm thick which is lighter and stickier than any tapes from Butterfly, Xiom etc..
  15. Advice to prevent ESN rubber shrinkage?

I precut rubber with about 1.5mm wider than my blade. Then put glue on and wait until it completely dry. After that I put the rubber and lightly roll it on blade. I like to have the rubber larger than the blade a little just to protect the blade from damage when accidentally hit blade on table.
