Huh. Now this is actually a nifty concept. Also known as "drawdown bars," "metering rods," or "metering bars." The diameter of the wire determines the thickness of the coating, down to the µm! I wonder what the ideal glue thickness is for TT rubbers? (As with much about gluing, it probably comes down to the type of glue and personal preference...) I could definitely see investing in one if I glued professionally, e.g. a supplier like tabletennis11, to ensure an even glue job. As a hobby player, I'd want to know which winding size to go with before investing.

I doubt the thickness of rubber is that critical. Sure you don't want to have blobs piled up in one area but it doesn't need to be so precise down to the mm.
