Hi all,

I need some help! I've recently won some TT vouchers and i'm going to get some new rubbers with them.

I'm currently using an all-wood acoustic g-rev which i'm very happy with, and currently using Nittaku G1 on FH and C1 on backhand.

I'm going to go for Dignics 09c for my forehand rubber, but i'm having trouble picking a BH rubber. My backhand isn't as strong or stable as my FH so i usually go for something medium-soft. I tend to push and block more on backhand with occasional open ups on weak balls.

The website i've won the vouchers for specialises in Xiom, so ideally something from them, or could go for Stiga/Butterfly as well.

C1 hardness is 45.00, so i was considering Stiga Mantra Pro M which is 47.00, so slightly harder, and would make blocking a bit more stable.

Any help/recommendations would be greatly appreciated 🙏

Not dignics 80?

Or maybe i channel my inner Gozo and go for Zyre on FH instead of 09c?

Urgh, decisions decisions....
d80 is ok, to me it just d80 is hardly ever on sale as it is probably a niche product and do not enjoy economy of scale; hence vendors may not buy in bulk to reduce price per unit unlike d05.

FH:

If you are brushy fh; D09C no question.

If you are smack em, whack em
type; Zyre03 no question.

Yeah. I do tend to power loop more than brush loop on my FH, but I'm concerned about my short game/serves with Zyre.

My logic is, i feel like at my level, I swing/hit pretty hard on my forehand, so with 09c, ill still be able to hit hard enough to put it past people, and will benefit in the short game and when I do a spinny/brushy loop

No rubber does everything well. Every rubber is a trade-off, so you need to pick a lane and commit to the style you actually want to play.

If your game is:

  • close to the table
  • heavy on brush loops/spin manipulation
  • focused on short game, serves, and opening quality

…then Butterfly Dignics 09C makes sense.

If your game is more:

  • mid/far distance
  • loop-to-loop and counterloop rallies
  • direct power and easier penetration

…then ZYRE 03 is probably the better fit.

The biggest mistake is trying to find a rubber that does everything perfectly. It doesn’t exist. Better to decide your trajectory first, then accept the strengths and weaknesses that come with that choice.

Give 09c with 1.9 sponge a try, if you accept to booster. It's another rubber than 09c max! The 1.9 gave a lot of safety to my game play. Unbelievable strong cuts. Stable blocking.

Yeah, i think 09c will suit my game more, sound advice as usual Gozo, cheers.

Thanks but i'm looking for something a bit cheaper on my backhand lol. My vouchers will only cover the 09c for FH.

I'm thinking about Stiga Mantra Pro M for BH.

Understand. I haven't tested Mantra. It's just my personal opinion: I rather would look for an alternative on my FH, to keep the 09c on my BH. Have you ever tried Loki Rxton 5? For me, this is close to Dignics (both boosted) and way cheaper, even cheaper than Mantra!

Thanks for the advice.

I've just bit the bullet and ordered the 09c for FH and Mantra Pro for BH. When i assemble my racket, I'll flip it and try the 09c on backhand as well. If i love it, i guess I'll be another £80 poorer :ROFLMAO:

Have you been able to try the mantra yet?
Yeah I had my first practice session with it this afternoon. I love it so far, it seems faster and more direct & crisp than the c1 I was using before.

I'm not sure about the dignics09c, I can play some incredible fh shots with it, but i have to work so hard, it definitely punishes laziness, and i can be a lazy player, especially when I start getting tired. My BH definitely isnt good enough to use it.

To be honest, i like the Mantra Pro M so much, I'm thinking about ordering a sheet of Mantra Pro H to try on my forehand. It looks like you can buy it pretty cheap on aliexpress.

How do you find the mantra in terms of spin generation and ease of looping and open ups ? How is it in blocking and countering/punching?

I need to test it a bit more, but its certainly great for blocking and countering. Open ups not as easy as C1 but when you catch the ball correctly its loaded with spin.

How are the drives and overall control and speed, does it feel like it just goes onto the table? can you compare it to Dignics 05 or Stiga dna platinum?

Yeah it's fast but plenty of control on my acoustic, but on a carbon blade I imagine it would be a rocket.

I can't really compare it to other rubbers, I'm not a big EJ, but it certainly seems like a step up from C1.

Pro H is reaching towards the realm of D05/D80. Less grip and less topend speed but more straightforward, less complex. Great smashing and countertopspin, but when I'm using ESN50 degree hardness rubbers on my fh I play a bit better with topsheets that have a bit more grip than Pro H. I like the Nexxus Superselect 50 or V22 Double Extra more but they are also bouncier and more reactive than Pro H, Pro H is quite stable and predictable for how fast I think it is, which is its greatest strength imo.

Pro M is incomparable to D05, Pro M is much softer. And I've only tried DNA Platinum H and XH not M. Pro M is much slower than Plat H, less spin and grip than D05, but easier to use. I think Plat H can also make more spin than Pro M but you need very fast racket acceleration to get the good spin out of Plat H because it is hard and also really fast. The Mantra Pro topsheet has good not great grip but the sponge compresses pretty easily so you can grab the ball without too much effort. Mantra Pro rubbers really excel in driving and blocking though

I’m choosing between these options, I have dignic 05 but I think it’s too fast for me, I like it, I can hit good shots in my backhand but I often over shoot it and miss because it’s too fast. Which of there’s do you think is better for my backhand? My backhand game usually consists of a slow open up and then rally and then I usually punch or counter to finish
