I was looking at the T max, but with shipping, it would cost almost the same as the he V max. So screw it, V max it is.
Is it blasphemous to slap on a red paint sheet on the back instead of leaving it black? I already have a new sheet of black fastarc g1, and would hate to have to buy a new one just for the color.
"2.4.6 The surface of the covering material on a side of the blade, or of a side of
the blade if it is left uncovered, shall be matt, black on one side, and of a
bright colour clearly distinguishable from black and from the colour of the
ball on the other."

I'm reading this as red paint being ok.

Stick three strips of red insulation tape on the back side and use black rubber on the FH. Unless you join competition, if somebody makes a fuss on general play just let them be.

As long as you don't use the back, no-one will make a fuss in local league play. Obviously you'd need to have different colours in a tournament with official ranking points.
Ryu used a black rubber in a few tournaments and it looks a bit odd :giggle:

I'll probably ask for the same, just so they think I know what I'm talking about haha.

Holy cow, that's awesome. I'd love to get one of those old school blades to display it like a kts etc
No I'll still play with it haha. Hopefully I'll meet some JPen legends in the future.
Good luck with your V-Max.
It is very fast!

My recommendation is 2.0 (not max).
I would say 2.0 is better as a close-to-the-table player as it's less spin sensitive, but it would be more difficult to spin and not so great from far distance with a full stroke.
If the Max thickness is too fast on the V-Max, it probably means you need to go for a slower blade like the T-Max, instead of decreasing the sponge thickness.

I think thickness of sponge is quite dependent on your playstyle. If you are more active and committed, such as full swinging like rsm for FH topspin, max. If you are more passive, small strokes, close to table, blocks and pushes, 2.0 can do.
Yes exactly. I think the OP mentioned looping from mid-far distance, so I assumed a full swing. But if the swing is a bit smaller, a 'shoto' style like Park PD, then 2.0mm could be preferable. Actually I think the Dynam is more suitable for the Shoto close to table style.
The V-MAX has a lot of dwell and catapult and lends itself to power loops/drives away from the table with a lot of spin, so works better in Max imo (having used this blade for many years).

Park PD did a good video showing the difference between the 2 approaches (drive Vs Shoto style). So you basically have to pick which approach is right for you (and realistic for your athleticism etc).
I like tpb, and can be pretty aggressive with it.
I am learning to do that bh from the famous WRM video of that Japanese kid hitting crazy tpb openers.
I can do it in matches but consistency is an issue and it's nowhere near muscle memory, I have to think about it to use it.
I try not to go too far from the table, close and mid distance is where I like to stay.

In that case, maybe consider Zyre 03 when you replace the rubber? I see Park PD plays with it, it seems 2.5mm offers better control compared to the 2.7mm. You can see him playing with it. He used Rasanter R53 for ages.
Apparently Zyre 03 is very stable against topspin.
But interested to see how the G1 works.
