I use the saviga V in green because it's the most durable. Being a penholder, my fingers rub the pips, which breaks them in about 4 sessions. The green one hasn't broken in almost a year of use.

I say it depends on the club you're in. If there are good players, many of them will help you out on the basics if you ask. At least in my club, the better players have no issues helping out the new players.

I use Jupiter Asia 3. But I mainly serve with inverted then twiddle to LP. It's a nice rubber, with an even better price tag. I think you can grab a sheet of it for 8-$10 on AliExpress

Durability, for me, is what I go for. I play penhold with inverted and LP. Due to the finger position of penhold, the pips easily break (LP used to last me about 2 weeks). But, the Saviga V in Green, has lasted me 5 months so far without breaking.
