  1. Any suggestion for a >$50 budget blade ?

I'm big on these Gambler Fire Dragon series. They have 3 different type of blades in that line for you to choose from.
  2. How often do you guys play table tennis in a week?

Generally twice a week. Once on Sunday for 3-5 hours. And a quick hit session over lunch on Thursdays for about 45 minutes with a co-worker/fellow club member. Honestly with a full time job & two young kids, I can't afford to put much more time into it than that. Such is life though.
  3. How do you deal with TT addiction??

Sure I get the urge to play if it's been a break for me but I try to keep it in prospective and know it's good for me every now & then to take breaks. I sometimes get too caught up in "practice, practice, practice. Got to improve. Got to beat this person or that. etc" When the trick is that...
  4. Just curious how many Penholders are on TTD?

I get it. And I suppose maybe that makes sense. But I think on this topic is an chance to mention a point Larry Hodges made in his book "Table Tennis Tactics for Thinkers" that I liked. I'm paraphrasing but he basically said if you don't use it, you lose it. So the point that he was making was...
  5. Just curious how many Penholders are on TTD?

For sure there's a Yin-Yang to it. I try to remind myself controlled doesn't mean play passive. I mean if I get what I deem to be as one of my shots, I'm going for it. But overall it was just trying to gear it down a pinch more on what I'd instinctively call tougher shots.
  6. Just curious how many Penholders are on TTD?

I mentioned that I like watch people who are good but not necessarily pros for inspiration and ideas and here's an example of this. If I'm critiquing my own game, I would say I play too aggressive. Going for too many shots that are low % and not being patient enough. Consequently, a lot of...
  7. Just curious how many Penholders are on TTD?

Some good stuff there. I always like watching good players play that aren't necessarily professionals to see what they do in certain situations as I find tips & tricks done there more relevant. Like your RPB block. Wish my RPB block came as natural to me (vs TPB) as yours does for you but I'm...

confiscate!!! left handed penhold brother! I thought only David Song & I were in that club. :P Nice. Props to NL for this video contest. More videos of members playing is always +1 in my book.

  10. Modern JPen blades - overview??

I play Cpen but have a soft spot for Jpens. Particularly 1 ply hinokis. Had one once. A Nittaku Airuline 8.8 Having said that, the only way I'd ever consider going back to one is if it was a two sided Jpen. ex: like the Nittaku Sou as sold on tabletennis11
  11. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Good video. I like your style of play in that I think you play the right way. I've seen players like this guy around. We all have. They win on consistency and a lot of their game is just kinda putting it in play. They will be more consistent than the opponent to win. Sure they can attack but...
  12. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I kept hearing people reference this and had to check it out. Very cool NL. Hope my match with Daniel I posted qualifies. I posted it here and the match took place on 11/12/17. If not, maybe I'll have to record a match on Sunday the 17th and upload it that night. We'll see. :)
  13. Just curious how many Penholders are on TTD?

Well to me the fix seems easier now. All I have to do is get more in a better (almost backhand) ready position in a rally and I think I'll be apt to use the RPB. But if I continue to be lazy holding my paddle down by my side, sure the TPB will continue. So I'll give it a go and report back in...
  14. Tips driving against short pips

My experience has been when I'm playing attackers who have shorts pips is that I find I have to open the face of my blade more and hit more into the ball. Otherwise, I find it's easy to put into the net. But I'm thinking of a time when I played someone with short pips and they were either using...
  15. Just curious how many Penholders are on TTD?

Thanks for the videos OSP. Something about your practice I think helped affirm an idea I had the other day with my delema of choosing TPB or RPB. So for some time now, I like RPB. I like the power I get from hit. While I need to learn gears with it, ex: when to soft loop, overall I think it's a...

Following up on TT monster's feedback and your post. FH: I watched the video and I like your counter hitting. Watch the first minute of the video and I believe around 3:57 (where you're further back from the table) and i get the impression you could do that in your sleep. But to me that's...
  17. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Want you all to take a trip down hypothetical lane with me. Imagine in the next year or so, some young buck comes up in TT and totally revolutionizes the shakehand game with this new devastating semiller backhand. (Now stay with me. I told you this was hypothetical). His backhand is unstoppable...
  18. Good tacky rubber to use unboosted on forehand?

I haven't had a problem ever with TTNPP. Having said that, I think i'd be wary buying some Hurricane provincial or national from anywhere because it's my impression that fakes are everywhere on those things. So I wouldn't bother with them. Just my 2 cents.
  19. Just curious how many Penholders are on TTD?

That's exactly the rubber I plan to try next. Looking for that euro like sponge on a sticky topsheet. I've hit with this rubber a little and I like it.
  20. Need help on reading these serves by Ma Long & Timo

Want to improve your service receive? Find some of the better servers at your club and ask them to serve to you or challenge them to matches if they don't want to do that type of practice. IMO, while you can pick up tips from pro's here & there, their style of game is so radically different...
