  1. WTT Star Contender Bangkok 2024 July 2-7

Fully agree. Super annoying to have someone count out returns. Nonetheless, super happy for Honoka Hashimoto. It's a huge mental hurdle for her to beat Sato. She has a decent chance at winning this tournament.
  2. WTT Star Contender Bangkok 2024 July 2-7

Just speculating here, but I'm thinking the funding might be coming from their T-League teams (or at least a good part of it). It seems to be paying off for Miki House/NP Mallets because Odo, Sato, Yokoi, and Hashimoto are all doing well in both singles and doubles. Come April '25 the players...
  3. Asian Youth Championships 2024

Great match. Sakai showed some real mental toughness being down 1-3 to win the bo7. I think he decided to target mostly the BH and sometimes to the FH as long as he got back a FH chop. He wanted to avoid the dangerous FH counter drive of Sun Yang. Sun Yang is the highest ranked U17 player so...
  4. WTT Star Contender Bangkok 2024 July 2-7

What a match! Down 7-10 in the 4th, they did not want to go to a 5th. Tomo falls on his back after they won. One match at a time, one game at a time, one point at a time .... Tomo/Hayata vs. Doo/Wong tomorrow for all the marbles.
  5. WTT Star Contender Bangkok 2024 July 2-7

This is a huge development. Tomo/Hayata's current low is 280 and the current gap between them and S. Korea is 210. So they need to make up 490 pts which means if they win this tournament, they will surpass S. Korea and grab the 2nd seed at the Olympics.
  6. WTT Star Contender Bangkok 2024 July 2-7

OMG, congratulations Honoka! Best defender in the world! I support both Miwa and Honoka, but I have to admit I wanted Honoka to win this a little bit more as it's her birthday and she is sooooo much better than her ranking suggests whereas Super Miwa is already ranked high. Had to watch it on...
  7. WTT Star Contender Bangkok 2024 July 2-7

Poor Hashimoto. She's a top 30 level player but gets stuck with an R32 matchup with Miwa. Edit: Apparently Honoka's birthday is July 5. She turns 26:
  8. Asian Youth Championships 2024

Just finished watching Hong Kong knock out China 3-2 in the U19 XD QF. Despite being undersized and probably younger(?), they used smart placement and fast, heavy pushes (must have been watching Felix) to get China off balance.

  10. Asian Youth Championships 2024

Don't know why the Asia specific website wouldn't have the results, but the link I posted in the 1st post has it if you click on the Daily Schedule.
  11. WTT Star Contender Bangkok 2024 July 2-7

I think only Adriana Diaz has a realistic chance of unseating Mima Ito from the top 10 based on the results of this tournament. Adriana actually has a pretty good draw up until the SF where she would meet Miwa. The other Japanese women are in the opposite half and she has a 3-1 record against SYB.

https://www.ittf.com/tournament/2977/Asian%20Youth%20Championships%202024/ The AYTTC is underway held in Chongqing, China with China already taking the U19 Boys Teams beating S. Korea 3-1 and also taking the U19 Girls Teams beating Japan 3-0. Japan beat China 3-2 in the SF and 3-0 over Iran in...
  14. WTT Star Contender Bangkok 2024 July 2-7

It's over now. China as expected wins U19 BT 3-1. However, China did not win everything. Japan beat China in U15 BT 3-2 in the SF before beating Iran 3-0 in the Finals.
  15. WTT Star Contender Bangkok 2024 July 2-7

If you're getting Contender fatigue and while we wait for the main draw, perhaps a teams event for a change of pace. The Asian Youth Championship is going on. As I type this the U19 Boys Teams event is in its final stage with China vs. S. Korea. China is up 2-1, with 4th match being Oh...
  16. WTT Star Contender Bangkok 2024 July 2-7

There is a possibility for them to surpass the S. Koreans, but the S. Koreans would have to lose early as I mentioned in the Tunis thread. The 3605 does not include the winning XD at Tunis. So they drop 105 (current low) and add 400 for a net gain of 295. 3605 + 295 = 3900 so the gap narrows. to...
  17. WTT Star Contender Bangkok 2024 July 2-7

https://worldtabletennis.com/eventInfo?eventId=2900 Final WTT tournament before the Olympics. LYJ is top seed in MS, and Hina Hayata is top seed in WS. Not sure why, but Miu Hirano was on the player's list but looks to have with withdrawn. LGY and CXT from China managed to get wildcards to...
  18. WTT Contender Tunis 2024 6/25-6/30

The Harimoto parents must be so proud to see their son and daughter win singles titles at the same tournament. Tomo is now combining both power and consistency on his forehand. Congrats to Uda for making the finals and making it so close. He played really smart on his opening attack forcing...
  19. WTT Contender Tunis 2024 6/25-6/30

Satsuki Odo takes out Nagasaki 3-1. Her game is just so solid. Getting to the finals is a great result, but I think Miwa will be too much for her.
  20. WTT Contender Tunis 2024 6/25-6/30

Tomo/Hayata did what they had to do and win the XD championship. Nonetheless, the 2nd seed at the Olympics is in Lim/Shin pair's hands. If they make the finals of SC Bangkok, the 2nd seed is theirs. If they don't, then Tomo/Hayata have a chance. Lim/Shin have lost to KK/Kallberg earlier this...
