I think it's more of a "follow the leader" kind of thing. Maple and Basswood were widely used on blades, then Stiga started making blades with Limba, those became popular and others started using it as well. Why they used Limba in the first place I don't know, Limba is cheap, widely available...

As Lodro pointed out, Butterfly will not reveal their secrets, they don't even disclose their compositions. But their ALC is not fully saturated, there are a lot of open spaces, not a glassy layer like you see on some of those cheap blades. What other experts? That information has been passed...

Completely true, but notice how I didn't mentioned anything about how they play. There are plenty of good and cheap blades out there, and a high price tag does not make a blade necessarily good.

Butterfly's ZLC has the same weave pattern as that one, the zylon is horizontal and the carbon is vertical. Butterfly's ALC is sort of a 1:1, but there is almost no Arylate in the vertical direction and there is a lot more space between the threads than that one. This is their proprietary weave...
