  2. Improving Service

short topspin is basically trying to get the ball to 'hop'. that's going to be the hardest thing probably. you can't bounce it onto the table because it'll sail long. also remember that you need to emphasize on spin rather than speed.

damn, that's a +1000 right there. great post Carl! my serve motion is more of a jab than a high toss roll. i find that it helps me keep my serve more consistent and it allows me to get the spin i want. the only downside i have so far is my ability to vary the amount of spin. i can do heavy...
  4. Improving Service

feeling refers to the ability to control the dwell time, to know how much spin you're putting on the ball, what kind of contact you're making with the ball (roll, jab, heavy, etc...)
  5. [Video] Service practice

to tell you the truth....i've never really thought about it. i do notice that most of my serves tend to hit the center/left side of my rubber though. so basically the majority of the contact is on the left outer side. i guess it's just been like that ever since i've tried to get more spin on the...
  6. Ma long backhand

you'll figure out the angle as you start practicing. the rubber will react differently than others. so just adjust it as you go.
  7. Ma long backhand

for close to the table, you will see a lot of forearm movement only. that is because it needs to be a quick response. once you get further away from the table, you'll see a bit more body rotation, this will give added power.
  8. [Video] Service practice

lol i have no idea if my serves are better back then or better now....i just think they 'try' to compliment my game. i'll try to record another session since i'm in summer school now....no one will be in the gym.
  9. Improving Service

throwing towards the body helps a bit for sure. but just make sure that it's 'mostly' a vertical toss....if not, then you might get called on it. as i said before, the ability to spin is directly linked to your ability to IMPACT the rubber. you can jab, wrist flick...whatever, as long as you get...

try yasaka ma lin extra offensive. the stiga clipper will be a bit slower than the yasaka blade. can't go wrong with either of them.
  16. Improving Service

work on your impact. the speed of your wrist upon contact with the ball is the most important. if you look up service videos, you'll get lots of help
  17. video of me playing =D

yea footwork is a big thing. i always have trouble getting out of the way of the ball sometimes. the bh still needs a lot of work =)

  20. Why does the ball deviate more on the second bounce ?

the ball slows down after the first bounce, so the deviation becomes more apparent (spin is still high, speed of ball becomes slower) topspin skids if the ball trajectory is low while it will kick up if it is a high dipping loop
