  1. Rubbers for all+ blade (yasaka sweden extra)

If you love hybrid rubbers, don't like catapult too much, don't like heavy or hard rubbers and are looking for a 'learning rubber', you could try Glayzer 09c. You've set yourself quite a narrow set of parameters! The AVX Purot or Pronte rubbers could also work well if you're able to get them...
  2. Need Advice On Hinoki Blade (J-pen)

In that case, maybe consider Zyre 03 when you replace the rubber? I see Park PD plays with it, it seems 2.5mm offers better control compared to the 2.7mm. You can see him playing with it. He used Rasanter R53 for ages. Apparently Zyre 03 is very stable against topspin. But interested to see how...
  3. Need Advice On Hinoki Blade (J-pen)

Park PD did a good video showing the difference between the 2 approaches (drive Vs Shoto style). So you basically have to pick which approach is right for you (and realistic for your athleticism etc).
  4. Need Advice On Hinoki Blade (J-pen)

Yes exactly. I think the OP mentioned looping from mid-far distance, so I assumed a full swing. But if the swing is a bit smaller, a 'shoto' style like Park PD, then 2.0mm could be preferable. Actually I think the Dynam is more suitable for the Shoto close to table style. The V-MAX has a lot of...
  5. Need Advice On Hinoki Blade (J-pen)

I would say 2.0 is better as a close-to-the-table player as it's less spin sensitive, but it would be more difficult to spin and not so great from far distance with a full stroke. If the Max thickness is too fast on the V-Max, it probably means you need to go for a slower blade like the T-Max...
  6. Need Advice On Hinoki Blade (J-pen)

No I'll still play with it haha. Hopefully I'll meet some JPen legends in the future. Good luck with your V-Max. It is very fast!
  7. Need Advice On Hinoki Blade (J-pen)

As long as you don't use the back, no-one will make a fuss in local league play. Obviously you'd need to have different colours in a tournament with official ranking points. Ryu used a black rubber in a few tournaments and it looks a bit odd :giggle:
  8. Beginner setup for SP?

This is spot-on advice. You want a stiffer all-round 7 ply. 802-40 on the FH and 729FX on the backhand. It's no more complicated than that. I don't know much about 7 ply blades on the market but those sound suitable.
  9. Beginner Penhold Setup Recommendation?

Yeah it sounds a decent set-up. Probably the 40 is too hard - these sponges are built to be boosted which softens them by a couple degrees. My favourite Chinese rubber Globe 999 is great for forehand. You could maybe get it in 38 degrees? With the plastic ball, more and more players are using...
  10. Need Advice On Hinoki Blade (J-pen)

I used this in CPen version. It had a sharper feel than the V-Max which has a softer mushier feel with more dwell.
  11. Need Advice On Hinoki Blade (J-pen)

Honestly I remember going on the forums as you're doing now, in around 2013, looking for advice. And I remember finding people recommend 95-100g. So that's what I asked for. The store said "the heaviest we have is 94", so going forward I just kept at that weight for new blades so I didn't need...
  12. Need Advice On Hinoki Blade (J-pen)

Btw about split JPens my RSM Max split and it was reglued in a clamp with some wood glue. Feels 90% the same. Plays good. I use it as a back up and obviously can beat good club players with it. No need to discard it. Spoke to an older Korean penholder once. He said his blade was 20+ years old...
  13. Need Advice On Hinoki Blade (J-pen)

Look, I have to be honest. As a long time JPen player, I tried the 982 from a clubmate and it feels nothing like Kiso Hinoki. Feels hard and 'flat' with little control and probably you'd end up buying a Kiso Hinoki anyway. So I can only speak from my experience on that one.
  14. Need Advice On Hinoki Blade (J-pen)

If you're thinking about the T-Mount ones, coach Ishizuka did this helpful guide from his experience recently http://youtube.com/post/UgkxmskjbTnMas-32Zfeyn26xR23QkKOqzmb?si=gvAxIkGMK21HtpNt
  15. Need Advice On Hinoki Blade (J-pen)

I have always played with the RSM Max and now it's renamed to V-Max. When I started playing the T-Max didn't exist but I definitely would have started with that. It's a little slower than V-MAX on the Butterfly scale and super popular. The other one people rave about is the Darker Speed 15. It's...
  16. Switching from “learning rubbers”

I don't want to derail this too much! But yeah you're bang on. Mark V HPS is like a 'factory tuned' Mark V. It brings Mark V into the new era so you can do more with it, like a 'fast control' rubber. The fact it's not a tensor rubbers is precisely why it's so popular. It's in its own category...
  17. Switching from “learning rubbers”

I get that. I just thought the Original Extra is so slow, R7 would feel a bit mental as a step up. The super soft tensor rubbers aren't really a thing anymore with the poly balls and you could argue are a little outdated. Rigan is a few degrees harder than R7soft, and is obviously designed as a...
  18. Switching from “learning rubbers”

I don't know if you've used the Mark V HPS but it's actually quite quick. A very popular rubber in Japan. Suitable for most club players. A good rubber. If you're talking the Yasaka range, Rigan is a better option than Rakza 7 soft imo. More tolerance and easy to play with, with good spin 👌
  19. Switching from “learning rubbers”

Without seeing you play, the natural progression from the Original Extra is the Mark V. That's the way that Yasaka market it anyway. My instinct is that you've gone with a carbon blade too soon with a rubber that's too slow. The Yasaka Sweden Extra blade has a very similar construction to the Ma...
  20. Who are your top 10 table tennis players?

Favourite lists are more fun than objective lists. Unfortunately there's not much competition to break into my top ten as not many forehand based penholders are coming through. For men's I'd go: 1) Ryu Seung Min 2) Xu Xin 3) Yoshida (Konishi) Kaii 4) Ma Lin 5) Ri Chol Guk 6) Lee Jung Woo 7) Wang...
