  1. Applegreen Allplay or Timo Boll ALC? (+ rubbers?)

As lasta said, he wasn't replying to me but your reply illustrates my point on how difficult it is to give reasonable advice. When do you become an intermediate player? My feeling is that most players leave the "beginner" category pretty quickly but stay as "intermediate" players for a very long...
  2. Applegreen Allplay or Timo Boll ALC? (+ rubbers?)

I haven't a clue what level I would be classified as on here. I'm 74 years old and have played on and off since I was a teenager. I currently play in the top division in my town in a league which has 4 divisions but I'm one of the weakest players in the division whereas I was an over 80% player...
  3. Forehand rubber for hitter ?

I'm not very familiar with short pimples so do you have any recommendations for the soft variety with grip?
  4. Table Tennis and Astigmatism

Unfortunately I can't use contact lenses as I've had corneal transplant surgery but I am in the process of getting new glasses as my current ones have become scratched a fair bit. I actually have transition lenses which darken according to the strength of the light but I'm still getting...
  5. Table Tennis and Astigmatism

I have astigmatism and the venues in our leagues generally have very bright lights. Although I wear glasses they only help my astigmatism when looking in one direction and I'm having problems with starbursts. When practising lately I have been holding my non-playing hand over my eyes as a shield...
  6. Questions about aliexpress

All I know is that the DHS Gold Arc 5 and 8 are much, much cheaper on AliExpress than anywhere I could buy them in the UK. What I don't know is if the rubber is genuine or not although the package looks genuine. However, I quite like it whether it is or is not! Re the bat being fast. I actually...
  7. Questions about aliexpress

I've bought a Yinhe T11+ blade, AK47 Yellow rubber and DHS Gold Arc 5 rubber from AliExpress at much cheaper prices than I could buy from UK TT stores and have been perfectly happy. However, I did notice that when I look at the DHS Gold Arc 5 rubber today that the prices on AliExpress vary from...
  8. Recommendation for FH Rubber

Thanks for all the replies. Some interesting options and I'll definitely be trying one or two.
  9. Recommendation for FH Rubber

Thanks for all the suggestions. Actually, when I first started playing table tennis getting on for 60 years ago I played with a Dunlop Barna which was short pips and I loved it but they stopped making it which was when I changed to inverted rubber! If I knew a short pips rubber with a similar...
  10. Recommendation for FH Rubber

Thank you. If I were 14, I'd be looking at Situation B but at 74 I'm afraid I'm stuck with Situation A. However, I never push against topspin but often do against backspin because I'm not as consistent hitting backspin as I would like and also because I want my opponents to hit being a...
  11. Recommendation for FH Rubber

Would be glad of any recommendations for a forehand rubber which would be a good match for my Yasaka Sweden Extra blade and my BH Xiom Vega Europe. Looking to try something which is a bit harder but still relatively light. I currently have Xiom Vega Europe 2.0 on both sides but although I use a...
  12. BH Rubber help.

I've used Vega Europe 2.0, Tenergy 05FX 2.0, MX-P 2.0, Rakza 7 1.8 and Rakza 7 Soft in 2.0. My favourite of those is Vega Europe. I found little difference between Rakza 7 and Rakza 7 Soft but I would say that both of those were slightly slower than my Vega Europe but had slightly more spin...
  13. Best "Cheap" rubber for forehand???

Maybe you're playing at a much higher level than I am. As the OP is looking for cheap rubber I'm guessing that he isn't playing at a particularly high level.
  14. Best "Cheap" rubber for forehand???

I'm surprised you need to change your rubber 2 or 3 times per season. I play 4 or 5 times a week and the rubber I use lasts at least a year and usually for 2 years without me noticing any loss of spin or power. I use soft rubber and have used TSP Ventus Soft, Tibhar Aurus Soft, Xiom Vega Europe...
  15. Equipment Advice

You were correct in your feelings that I might get on with this blade. However, it wasn't the extra speed that I found difficult to manage but more the fact that it was impossible to generate anywhere near as much spin as I got from the Yasaka Sweden Extra even though I had TSP Ventus Soft...
  16. Testing new setup tonight

It is certainly very cheap and I also like light rubber. I bought a piece of AK47 yellow to give it a try after seeing positive comments. It was the first time I had bought any rubber thicker than 2.0 but, as far as I could see, all AK47 comes in 2.2 thickness and I didn't like the thicker...
  17. Lightweight rubber

Oh dear! A little bit late for the OP!!!!!!
  18. Lightweight rubber

I'm afraid I've missed the joke! Can you explain?
  19. Lightweight rubber

I've played with Rakza 7, Rakza 7 soft and Xiom Vega Europe all of which I like but the lightest I've played with is definitely TSP Ventus soft and I find it every bit as good as the others and with more control and spin.
  20. Equipment Advice

Only because this blade is so cheap. If I find I'm hitting harder with it without losing too much in the way of spin, I will probably go for a Power Wood as I've seen that recommended quite often and it's a reasonable price. Thanks for the advice.
