I haven't been able to watch the matches...by the comments it seems ML is not in his best form like he showed in Grand Finals last year. But he almost always gives a hard time to FZD, so there is still a chance. I hope ML can make history once again!

That is a very unique choice of colors, beautiful! I noticed that the blade is a bit on the heavier side. Judgind by the balance, it seems that this mahogany pommele is very heavy.

Just for curiosity, how much would cost a one ply blade of kiso hinoki?

I think ML has a good chance to take gold in singles. He is not the favorite of course, but can still give a lot ot trouble against FZD. If I'm not mistaken, last year they faced each other 4 times (including domestic competition). FZD won 3, but all of them were on the 7th. Curious to note that...

On the chinese competitions a few months ago, Ma Long seemed to have a relatively slow start, than rose his level on the semis and finals. Maybe aging has made him take a bit longer than usual to reach his peak form during a competition.
