  1. All wood blades - Fast 5-ply vs Slow 7-ply?

The thickness of the two blades may also be a factor. The thinner blade has more flaex and hence better at looping. The thicker blade is more solid and thus hits harder but the lack of flex means you need to be more precise with where blade and ball meet (sweetspot). Just my thoughts.
  2. Just curious how many Penholders are on TTD?

Actually I didn't cut the handle on that for two reasons. The primary was that I was not that aware of blade dynamics and physics or mechanics back ten so was not very well versed with head-heaviness or the lack of it so that thought never came to mind. I mean I put two rubbers on it; Sriver on...
  3. Just curious how many Penholders are on TTD?

We don't get penhold blades very easily where I live because the style is almost non-existent here. In fact I have only come across three penhold players here, and not even one Jpen player in all my years of playing. A friend of mine who first taught me the game used to play Cpen so he conveyed...
  4. 2 vs 1 matches

If you play by badmointon rules then it could become a real workout for the single player and more fun. I would pair the strongest single player against the weaker players as a doubles team and eliminate the rule requiring that they alternate.
  5. Just curious how many Penholders are on TTD?

And just a small thing. Today I got back to the table after almost a month. Hip pain is much better and I was able to manage it much better today as well. Did not over do it and will take it from here slowly. The best part is, normal walking aggravates it, not the lateral movement involved in...
  6. What is your new year's resolution?

My resolution is to get back to full fitness and resume playing. Been off the court for 4 weeks now.
  7. Custom Bat advice

I was not recommending penhold blades for him. I just added that bit because I am a penhold player and I did not manage to get one until fairly late. Merely to illustrate that this also did not really hamper my growth. I play one-ply now, and made it clear that I moved to them after several...
  8. Custom Bat advice

I played for a fairly long time with a Butterfly premade racket that had Flextra rubbers on both sides. And then the next blade I got was a Matsushita Pro Special with Butterfly Sriver on it. This a pretty slow blade since it is basically made for defenders but there is no reason why you cannot...
  9. Just curious how many Penholders are on TTD?

Could shadow table tennis be an answer to at the issue with your right shoulder/deltoid. I know it is not the same as multiwall but it could help warm up your shoulder? If yes, then maybe you could do shadow drills to the side before you step up to the table, and this way while you may not have...
  10. Can this blade be repaired?

Not worth the repair if you ask me. Can it be repaired? Yes. Will it play like before? Doubtful, at best. It is not really an expensive blade and your friend should get a new one.
  11. Expiry date of rubbers?

All you can do is prolong the life a bit. There is no way to vacuum seal them because even the ziplock bags will retain a certain amount of air when you seal them. But in answer to your question, yes, ziplock bags is the best you can do. It is best to not buy too many rubbers at once though.
  12. Happy New year!

Happy new year everyone. My aims are to continue playing and getting better after having returned to the sport following a hiatus of more than 10 years. And to not give in to the EJ curse, which for me is centered around buying another single-ply Jpen blade.
  13. Red on FH or BH and Black on FH or BH

I play single side penhold so technically I use the same color on FH and BH :P
  14. Nittaku acoustic blade - any good?

It is true that the plastic ball has resulted in several changes to the way the game is played. Unless you play at the top level of the sport - international level, national level - the Acoustic will be great for you even with the plastic ball. Major changes in the way the game is played are...
  15. FS: Two Heavy (100g +) Homemade Blades $30 Each

I just read this thread and it is one of the most interesting threads on the forum. The technicalities of the blade construction, the specs and the requirements of the player make for amazing reading. Any updates. Did George ever order the two new blades? How long did he stick with the...
  16. Suggestion on Blade please

These are all expensive blades, but if you are careful with your equipment, and don't change rubbers too often they should last you for years. To minimize the damage to the blade caused by water-based glues, you can always seal the blade. And since you are coming from an Acoustic, you are...
  17. Gamestyle adjustment - Discoordination and slow reaction while in match play

I think this is the best piece of advice for you. Especially the second point. My game improved by leaps and bounds once I stopped worrying about losing points.
  18. Suggestion on Blade please

If you are not an advanced player then I don't think you should be getting a faster setup. You can generate a lot of speed with the Acoustic if you work on your technique and the speed of your action. Besides, the game is not all about power and speed, but also about placement, variation and...
  19. Hello guys

Welcome to the forum Knitbone, and welcome back to the game! Looking forward to hear about your game and your level and your equipment as well. I play penhold and enjoy a bit of pips out play as well at time but am mostly an inverted rubber player. Have you ever played liha?
  20. Which blade should i get?

Nothing wrong with it. It is a very good quality blade but is on the stiff side, and not very good for looping. It is good for close to the table play, good for blocks also. I own one and have played a lot with it. I have pips rubber on it and it can be a lot of fun.
