  1. Absence of top players at the U.S. Open

The top players used to attend the U.S. Open back in the eighties and nineties, but I noticed that they're conspicuously absent in the last decade or so. Good players show up, sure - but I don't think a single players on the men's side in the top 20 was there this year.
  2. Rubber lifespan

Wow - you guys change a lot. The rubber on my paddle is at least four years old.
  3. Ma long return?????????

What happened to him? What kind of injury does he have?
  4. Tactics against a mid-court looper

Nice input - thanks. I also considered instead of hitting fast loops deep to them, which they feed off of like a shark in bloody water, I could hit them slow spinny loops - something that they can't stand back and plow into. I saw Waldner do this once to the chopper Li Gun Sang, and he was...
  5. How to get explosive forehand power (with Paul Drinkhall)

I think that a lot of people forget that most of the forehand power comes from rotating the waist. I see a huge number of the pros doing this, and it puts a tremendous amount of spin on the ball.
  6. Tactics against a mid-court looper

Good points. I suppose I could also pin them to one side, then hit far to the other corner and force them to run. Or open my points up with hard pushes, making it harder for them to get into their comfortable looping rhythm.
  7. Tactics against a mid-court looper

There are several players I play whose type of play is to take a step or two back and just loop the ball off both wings. They're really good at it, and once they get going, it's hard to win the point. They're also excellent lobbers and retrievers, so it's very difficult to hit through them. I...
  8. Ma Long's first match since his injury - 2018

I don't care one way or the other. I'm not sure why you've assumed that I'm broken up about it. Maybe you shouldn't jump to conclusions.
  9. Ma Long's first match since his injury - 2018

An Ma Long is far more fun to watch than Zhendong, for sure. He's just one more Chinese, cookie-cutter player to me.
  10. Ma Long's first match since his injury - 2018

Yes, but once a #1 player falls to #11, they almost never reclaim their former ranking. He's more than likely going to be chasing the next upcoming generation the rest of his career, like Zhendong, Ovtcharov, and Harimoto among others. After all, Ma Long was #1 for about eight years straight...
  11. Ma Long's first match since his injury - 2018

I wasn't aware that he was injured. What happened? I saw that he fell in the rankings and just attributed it to advancing age - LOL.
