Hi all,
I posted a little while ago asking for advice as to what to replace the MXP I’ve been using for the last couple of seasons with and have had the chance since then to try a few things out at the club. The consensus back then was that Dignics (09c forehand, 05 backhand) would be a good choice for a more dynamic and relatively long lasting combination as I don’t want to be changing rubbers every couple of months.
Currently I’m using some Donic Bluestorm Pro AM (max) on both sides that I was gifted - they are fairly used but I think I’m getting a representative of what they are like. Now, I actually quite like it - it’s taken a few sessions to get a grip on it but it’s plenty fast enough, dynamic blocking on the back is really nice and actually the backhand in general, loops and kills included work really well - that said my backhand is my strong side and I find I can use pretty much anything.
The forehand is where it gets less good. Again it’s plenty fast enough and drives and loops are great until I really try to play with power when the rubber becomes extremely non-linear and unpredictable. There’s a noticeable point where it just pings off like an absolute rocket and is quite uncontrollable. The few times I’ve managed to hit such a shot and it lands, is definitely not coming back! I wonder if this is something I could eventually get used to but the question is:
Is it a good idea to try to use such a non linear rubber and is this something you could eventually get used to? I’m worried that under pressure in matches that this will become as issue where the rubber is unpredictable.
Am I, as I suspect, just better going with the Dignics combo? It’s definitely much more predicatable and similar to MXP in terms of that from the limited time I’ve had with it at the club.
What’s the durability of the Donic like? I suspect it’s not going to be that great but I’d like to be pleasantly surprised xD
Given it doesn’t seem to be that popular I wonder how long it will be available and whether or not it will be discontinued shortly or something.
Any opinions?
