I am currently playing on a commercial HL5 with AK47 blue and H3 Neo 39 OS on the FH. I feel pretty comfortable with the setup overall though I feel I am missing a little something on the BH (it could be my own technical deficiencies). The AK is also just disintegrating and I would like to replace it in a few weeks. What are some step ups?

For reference, I have played with Vega Europe (great rubber) -> Moon 12 (very stable but felt slow) -> AK 47 Blue (good for blocking, decent speed, but it really is lacking grip IMO).

My current requirements are:
  1. Good for blocking
  2. Stable with control, i.e. should be medium to medium high speed
  3. Needs to have a bit more grip so I can spin up on the BH
I was thinking about Telson 100 having read about it on the forum. How have people found it on their BH? What about G1, C1 or even AK47 Red? Would love to hear some suggestions

Im using Telson 100 475 deg on a Korbel jp. Grip last really well so far. Good control, easy speed, engage the sponge and its a rocket launcher!🤓🤣 good blocks and BH Punch. I feel i have more succes and quality VS Backspin if i go forward and engage the sponge. Im working on Bh technique so it doesnt say much. I like it. G1 is good, Tenergy 64 too.

I do have a BH vs underspin that is forward-oriented so that's good to hear.

Can you say more about the throw and its sensitivity to spin (for serves esp.)

Telson 100 VS G1, which rubber is more bouncy.

Thank you sir.

Not too high throw, but i changed from Tenergy 64 so i was used to a flatter arc. I dont think its too sensitive to spin, feels quite standard for such a grippy rubber, Firm sponge helps with touch.

People may have different experiences than me, but I found G1 is bouncier when both are unboosted.

When both are boosted, Telson 100 has much more rebound

After both are boosted, which rubber is more lighter in weight and softer feeling.

Thank you sir.

So I finally put the Telson 100 on the BH. Will try it out tomorrow, looking forward to it.

It IS a bit heavier than I am used to but let's see how it goes.

Let me know how the throw angle is. My friend has a Telson 100, it's a bit old but it seems like it has a low throw angle.

So I have had two training sessions and a play session (vs weaker opponents though). Here are a few thoughts:

  1. coming from Palio AK 47 (blue), the throw angle didn't seem low to me. In fact on some shots, it felt just as bouncy as the Palio

  2. It has decent grip though I was expecting a bit more. There were some shots, where I thought I had good contact but the ball went sailing over

  3. Very good control. I felt very comfortable driving, looping and blocking on it. It definitely has a high ceiling for more quality shots (my technique is probably what stops me from accessing this just yet)

  4. I have had some growing pains with pushing though. I have an old school push technique (i.e. side-swipey); more than a few times, I didn't feel fully in control of my pushes, the ball would bounce higher than I expected
Overall, early days but pretty decent rubber. As I am still trying to develop my BH technique for more power, I am going to stick with it for a 2 months at least and see how it goes

I hope you're right about the throw angle. My #1 hate is rubbers with low throw angles.

I have a new sheet coming soon, so I will test and compare it against Arthur Europe Diamond

3 month update:

  1. grip is still decent, would rate 6-7/10. I generally don't have problems opening backspin on BH. The only time it happens, I know my technique has failed me

  2. Very good control. I feel like if I am positioned properly, I can block anything coming my way with good control and speed

  3. Unlike when I first started, I am pretty comfortable pushing with the rubber

  4. Paired with improvements in my technique, I feel like my drives have become much faster. The throw is good, not too low, not too high. I think this might T100's best quality for me

  5. I will say it is not a very spinny rubber. This effects me directly as I like my BH serves and while serviceable, I can notice a big difference when I use my H3N side to serve, vs T100. Of course, it has benefits of being more insensitive when receiving.
tl:dr - very happy with the T100. As an intermediate player, it lets me focus on developing technique without getting the in the way. I do want to try H3N 37 on the BH before finally settling on a long-term option but I am happy to wait until this rubber gives out

Very good choice of BH rubber. But I beg to differ, T100 is very spinny, I bother opponent a lot with my BH spin.
Ditto -- I used to use the AK47 as a test bed rubber for my blades, but I switched to the T100 ages ago.
I find that if I brush a lot as part of my strokes, the T100 gives you excellent spin.

If however I just bury the ball deep into the sponge layer, then spin is greatly reduced and the punchy / speed-focussed qualities of the T100 starts coming to the fore: you get lots of satisfying speed that way, but far less spin.

The challenge with this rubber really for me is getting that whole "impact vs brush" ratio just right with my strokes. That's when I really see the T100 at its best, ...and at its best, it's a beast.

I am pretty sure there is a skill factor involved lol...in a way that is heartening as hopefully the spin gets unlocked as I improve

My BH is also more on the punchy/speedy side so I am clearly not optimizing my impact/brush (in fact, I know so). On the serve, I am beginning to see spin potential though in comparison to the hurricane, the difference jumps out to me
