I read the review, it's very thought provoking and I agree with some things like blocking, pushing, counterlooping is excellent. In terms of spin I always thought this was more dependent on the rubber than the blade (ML obviously uses chinese rubber on FH and is looping with probably a different technique I imagine). From a blade point of view I actually feel DHS W997 has more dwell than Viscaria. I agree it's slower than Viscaria and easier to control. I think by Butterfly speed rating standards this DHS W997 is somewhere around off, I think off- or even all is a bit of an exaggeration though. I like the blade precisely for its own ratio of speed/control/spin. I do think Viscaria is an excellent blade though (I have one in my possession although I don't play so much with it anymore)

I wouldn't say the counterlooping is excellent.
more like it's extremely safe.
yes you can hit 4, 5 and more counterloops in a row without missing.
but the reason you can do this is also because the ball that goes out is not so powerful and is easy to return for the opponent.

personally I think spin is more dependant on the blade.
butterfly composites where the composite is the 2nd layer are the spiniest blades I found until now.
but also a very spiny blade means less control for blocking.

when comparing with viscaria, to be fair you would need a viscaria of weight 93 or 94g which are almost non existing.
w997 and others are very heavy blades.
95g and up.
I think if you got a 85g w997 it would probably be around defensive in speed lol

I have a 91g DHS W997 and a 89g Viscaria. Yes I think Viscaria is more powerful, with the spin I am a bit undecided as different rubbers and type of technique used (chinese vs euro rubber, chinese vs euro loop) has a big influence on spin. At least for me it feels like DHS W997 is around off speed (Butterfly scale), it's slower than TB ALC, Viscaria but faster than Innerforce ZLF (Liu Shiwen blade). For me it's powerful enough, I think the control/speed ratio is good for my style, as I am fairly good at generating power esp on the FH but I am not so quick.

WOW, all that talk about Ma Long blade just after he won his title in world championship and also Viscaria because of ZJK?

I sometimes feel it is about equipment more than player, i know many will disagree but as long people keep talking about equipment it means to em that equipment does matter, Chinese players can play with any blade and will win and stay on top, so why talk about specific rackets they use nowadays?

From all those discussions here and there i feel i want to go out and buy DHS Long 5 and Viscaria together and play with both swapping time to time.

I bought hurricane long v and zjk alc in 2014 and have been using them for quite a while.
more the zjk really, the hurricane long v I test it but always end up going to something else.

they are like night and day really, hurricane long v is all about control while zjkalc has incredible power and some control.
I think the difference is so big that it even affects players in the level of ma long and zjk.

ma long is like waldner a bit, proving that slow equipment and control is still the way to go.

I'm gonna try to sand down the hurricane long v to a regular size like btfy blades.
of all the blades I have it's the only one that always presents a problem when trying to fit rubbers into it.
will also be interesting to see how it performs with a regular size.

I have 8 rackets now, and i can see the difference between them all, and even others saw that difference when they used mine and when i used them against them, so equipment do matters, and from all those 8 rackets i have now i just use one as my main racket, and another one as backup because it is good for another playing style.

I don't know if i will like that Hurricane Long 5, it is a bit heavy, it is not an issue, but my best blade is Hurricane Hao III ad it is lightweight in my hand, and i felt that BTY Jun Mizutani is a bit heavier and somehow harder, but that is not an issue, i can choose any when needed, my components prefer heavier than lighter, so that they prefer my Carbonado and JM more than my HH3.

the chinese pro players don't use just anything.
there's many that use viscaria like blades (the most popular option) and then there's the ones that copy ma long like fang bo.
and that's about it.
it's not like they go buy 50 different blades and then choose the one they like.
