I just checked - Liu Shiwen only played one match in WTTTC!!!
And that was even on the position no. 3 against easiest opponents - USA!!!

Well me, being Liu Shiwen, I would emigrate at this point into Germany for example..
Or Singapore or anywhere, but I wouldnt stay in China anymore!

A player of these qualities being held from playing, that is just not fair!

What the hell happened?
Is she injured? Or what?

What do you think about that ???

Unfortunately, LSW does not seem to handle the pressure of team competition very well.

Amongst the current Chinese top women, she lost the most in team competitions - to Jiang HJ in Team World Cup, to Feng TW and Wang YU in Moscow, to Seok HJ in Asian Games, and most significantly to Singapore's Yu MY in the recent Asian Championships.

There is just too much competition within the Chinese team to take a chance with Liu SW.

maybe she was sick or injured... but i think, its because they are looking, who will fight at the olympics. and maybe the coach knows, that liu will not play there. so its maybe just the fight between li xiaoxia and guo yan.

Yeah I was thinking about that! But she played well at the end of the year 2011, I thought that she will have a chance to prove she can to go to the Olympics but apparently not!!

Great response, thanks for that :)

I was thinking about the same - BUT!!!

HOW ON EARTH CAN SHE PROVE SHE IS MENTALLY BETTER NOW WITHOUT PLAYING ?????

That is the question!

For real, me being Liu Shiwen, I would leave China and try it somewhere else..

The problem with the Chinese players is that there are not many foreign players that would count as a real test for them. However I believe Li XiaoXia lost her match at position 3 in the semi-final, but she played at position 2 in the final. So it maybe misses some logic indeed.

With the loss to Singapore's Yu Meng Yu in the Asian Team Championships barely a month ago, her fate was sealed. I think she was even leading 2-0 in that match. On the Chinese team, you can't lose to 3 Singaporeans in 2 years, you can't lose to Yu Meng Yu, their 4th or 5th player, and you can't lose when you are up 2-0 in the final.

I can't say LSW wasn't given a chance. She was staging a strong comeback, but unfortunately that was a critical loss. Once it has been decided LSW isn't going to the Olympics, there is little value to play her in this WTTTC.

If LSW could represent another country, that would be a major power shift in women TT. However I don't think ITTF rules allow for that anymore, not until a long waiting period has passed.

I think that they have decided that LSW won't play in the olympics, due to her poor results in team competitions during the past 2 years. She is also only 19-20 years, so for most players her age, being in the team in these occasions as WC is just for look and learn, (for a normal 20 year old player)

Anyways I still dont like it..
Neither did she.. You can clearly see - how some worse players popped up in world rankings just because they played more matches in WTTTC..
Guo Yue for example.. or Ma Lin..
I dont like it..

You think Liu Shiwen would beat Ma Lin?
Wow... :O

Well .. didnt want to put it this way, but when you ask - then .. YES, I think she would beat him.
She has much better game near the table and is much faster than Ma Lin, with right tactics she would beat him so bad..
She wouldn't be able to receive his serve though :p I believe the 2nd range players from the men's team once practised with the 1st women's team so they'd have better players to play against. Says enough :)

Whoaaat? Ma Lin is like the best over the table player. Liu Shiwen's only advantage would be speed. Do you think she would beat Ma Lin by pushing long or high balls at him and then countering Ma's 3rd ball attacks close to the table?

None of the CNT female players can beat top 10 players in a match of 5 or 7. They might be able to win one in maybe 100 matches, but it's not likely. I'm sure they could win a set, but it's hardly believable that they could beat any male player from say top 50 in the world. Below that I'm sure they could start winning consistent matches or even a majority of them.
