Hello everyone,

I am an early intermediate player. I want to improve my backhand flick and forehand loop skills. I have been looking at few robots in my price range (less than $400). I came accross one person selling brand new Newgy Robo Pong 2040 selling for $225. I also recently came accross Pongbot Nova S Pro selling for $333. I know the later doesnt have ball recycle but I love the fact that spin can be adjusted specially for slow serves. Anyone use this robot and have any opinion on it? Any other robot in my price range that perhaps I havent heard of? Thanks in advance for the feedback

I have been using it for couple of weeks and it's really fantastic, exactly what I needed. Also, the APP is excellent and very easy to use.
Have you found anything similar for the price? Also are the backspin serves realistic like human would do? How do you rate this robot compared to other two wheel Chinese robots around the same price range. Do you use ball collector net and found it useful? Also one more question, do you find it odd that robot is sitting on the table and you cant return the ball to that location? Thanks

Thanks so much for your interest in our robots.

If you have any questions or confusion, feel free to reach out and we would be more than happy to help you out.

In the meantime, here is a video you might want to take a look at to learn more about the robot:

Why doesnt it come with balls? I would hate to buy those seperately.

As you might know, our base is China, and our customers are from many countries in the world. Generally, we directly send our robots out from China by air which is more fast and efficient. However, the balls are not allowed to be sent this way. So this is the reason we don't provide the balls with robots.

Besides, the balls are quite easy to get and there are no specific requirements for the balls for our robots. You can get them online easily as long as they are 40+.

I think no one can beat it for this price, at least not for now. And I don't think it's odd that the robot is sitting on the table to play with. Anyway, it's just my personal experience and thoughts. If you are hesitant, better check out more reviews online from other users.

What combination of side spin can be used in one drill? For instance i know it can serve backspin and then top spin in one drill. Can it do side spin with backspin and then side spin with topspin in a drill?

For side spin, it is achieved by manually rotating the NOVA head. Compared to the up-and-down spins, adjusting to different angle settings will produce the corresponding type of spin.

I’m also eyeing this, cheaper and it’s smart compare to those timer based robot.

But I want the Omni S Pro, kinda pricey though 😁
Thank you for your interest in both the NOVA S PRO and OMNI S PRO! 😊 While the OMNI S PRO may seem pricier at first glance, it's truly an investment that's worth every penny. Compared to other robots in the same price range, the OMNI S PRO offers unparalleled value due to its advanced functionality and versatility.

It features highly customizable settings for spin, speed, frequency, and trajectory control, allowing users to tailor their training to specific needs. Unlike timer-based robots, the OMNI S PRO is smart and adaptive, giving you the ability to create detailed training programs with precision. It’s designed for both recreational players and professionals who are looking for a more dynamic and personalized training experience.

When considering the durability, advanced features, and the convenience of app control, it stands out as one of the most cost-effective options on the market. It's definitely worth the investment if you're serious about improving your game!

exactly what I needed.
@leottsense How would you rate the maximum spin and maximum speed of the ball? Spinsight quotes at least 120rps (spin) and up to 150km/h (speed) for seasoned club-level players. The specs for the pongbot quotes max 60rps and 50km/h, which doesn't sound too impressive tbh.

I would like to practice how to react to incoming slow highish superspinny loops, e.g. with different sorts of blocks, counter loops, slices, chops, punches, smashes. Or, i would like to practice how to react to incoming fast low superspinny loops. For these 2 exercises i would want to set the spin and/or the speed to the max values, in order to produce really challenging incoming balls to react to. Am not sure if the pongbot can generate such superchallenging balls.

And how would rate the quality of the services produced by the pongbot, are they low-bouncy and superlow over the net?

There are no detailed Nova reviews on any forums. So I am hesitant about acquiring a unit!

The PONGBOT serving robot allows for parameter settings for each individual serve, including landing point, ball speed, type of spin, spin intensity, and serving frequency. This helps simulate the opponent's return strategy during matches for table tennis training. In multiball training, the focus is mainly on switching between different landing points, frequencies, and spins to improve footwork.

Although the claimed serving speed does not reach your expected 150 km/h, table tennis is not a sport that relies solely on hitting every ball at that speed. It's more about the variation in spin to tactically control the opponent. Therefore, practicing footwork and different types of incoming balls is essential for better tactical training in table tennis.

Regarding serving, the PONGBOT robot supports two-bounce serve simulation. You can continuously adjust the specific serving conditions through the custom drill mode in the app to find the serving style that suits you best.

In any case, at around $400, the NOVA S PRO has no competitors in the market, at least in my opinion. But if you're still hesitant, you can look for other people's reviews.

If the videos and texts and testimonials are true, then i certainly agree that the nova has no competitors around the price mark yes; that's why i've registered here (i am new on TTD) because the cute robot caught my very attention and this is the only place "on the internets" (quote by maniscalco ;)) which has some early adopters, i.e. owners.

"other people's reviews" ... well, there is no other place than TTD with active discussion of Nova, and there is no real systematic review of the Nova, with detailed critique, comprehensive treatise, photos, etc, anywhere. The videos on youtube, incl Ti Long's, are what i'd call a nice 'demonstration' or 'presentation' or 'videographic overview', and the customer reviews on amazon are just comments (I'm a gold status vine reviewer btw). Google <selfbuilt review> in order to understand what i mean by "a review". On amazon, depending on my motivation, i'd write comprehensive tl;dr customer reviews too.

On the German pinpon forum, nobody owns a Nova unit or posts about it, let alone posts a so-called "full review" of it. Hesitant German shoppers? — you betcha. Over there i wrote comprehensively about my 2 returnboards, and coined the neologistic term "rbpon". Unfortunately, hardly anyone is convinced of the use of returnboards as valid pinpon exercise, other than me and Victoria "Vicky Strass" Strassburger, who btw also uses several robots.
