TT Funding cut in UK

After the recent success of the London 2012 Olympics, funding has now been allocated in preparation for the Rio 2016 Games.

UK Sport, which determines how public funds raised via the National Lottery and taxation are allocated to elite-level sport, said the distribution of money was based on whether sports met their medal target in London. Rowing, cycling and boxing were among those rewarded for a successful London 2012, while handball, basketball, table tennis and wrestling had their funding removed entirely. I think its ridiculous. If you go down the list of sports, Table Tennis achieved its modest target of one 32nd to 64th place yet gets funding slashed. Water Polo acheived its "target" of the men coming 10th to 12th they came 12th! when there were only 12 teams involved! and they get more funding! Insane!

Two levels of funding. Funding for the elite level which helps the top players prepare for the next Olympics was cut from GBP1.2m to zero.

Funding for the grassroots level (based around participation at club level) was increased. However in order to receive the maximum funding there are targets to be achieved after year 1. If those targets are not met then that level of funding could also be cut.
