Has anyone heard of the Stiga Dragon Power rubbers? Dandoy Sports is selling it now in 3 sponge hardness, 52.5, 55 and 57.5 degrees.

Jokes aside. Going by the ITTF approval code as of 2024/9/15 (so ignoring the original H, H2, H3 released back in 2001/1/7 as well as original Nittaku H2, H3, H2 Pro, H3 Pro and counting only the ones released since 2009), there are only 9 Hurricane variants, 4 of which intended for the Japanese market. Among the 9 variants, only 3 are H3, 2 of which intended for the Japanese market.

24-001 Hurricane
24-002 Hurricane II
24-035 Nittaku Hurricane II (discontinued 2023/8/31)
24-036 Nittaku Hurricane III (discontinued 2023/8/31)
24-037 Nittaku Hurricane Pro II
24-038 Nittaku Hurricane Pro III
24-054 Hurricane 8
24-055 Hurricane 9
24-108 Hurricane III

The other "iterations" are really just H3 and H8 combined with different types of sponge produced at different tolerances (Commercial/Provincial/National), and the most popular ones are really just the following.

Mostly for FH:
H3 w/ #20 or #22 sponge at 39°/40°/41°...
Mostly for BH:
H3 37 Soft
H3 w/ #20 or #22 sponge at 38° (you have to look around for this one)
H8 37 Soft
H8 w/ #25 sponge at 39°/40°/41°

There are new releases and so we haven't feedback on durability, which is an important aspect as the normal dragon grip is not good in this aspect, but the touch/feeling is amazing.

So I'll wait for reports from the users who will test this rubber, because the hegemony of butterfly 09C needs to be shaken.

Stiga is ON Fire on the market.

FH, BH? How does it feel ?
Unfortunately for one reason or another I haven't been able to play. I will be playing tomorrow. I have it as the forehand rubber on my Ebenholz VII, which I put my old sheet of Dragon Grip on before it totally died, but I was surprisingly pleased with the results. The rubber only comes in 2.15mm, and weighed 76g uncut (I can't remember if that was with or without the plastic sheet attached).

How long did you use dragon grip before it died ? I heard from a product engineer at stiga than dragon power is slightly more durable

there is no good or bad in this category. Bouncing less means less high and therefore less often. This is remarkable, since the sponge hardness does not necessarily mean that the bounce is less. There are harder sponge rubber that still bounce quite high and often which can be interpreted in a quite high base speed.
Rakza Z is already quite controlled compared to regular tensors.

after a first session against real people (and not against the robot) i have a few impressions.
I will keep it brief because i want to wait for tomorrows session to verify these:

- short touch is quite good (as indicated by that bounce test). I had a few occasions where i stepped into the table and touched the ball short where the opponent actually whiffed the ball when he tried to flick it, because the ball was even shorter than the opponent expected
- active play: damn it is easy to generate power with the rubber. I could see myself playing with this ruber 2 to 3 meters behind the table. That is not my style of play, but the shots from distance have sufficient power. It remains to be seen if i can handle the close to the table active shots reliably

What the heck? So is dragon power very dead?
it is really odd because like you see: if you dont give any power and just hold it passive, the ball will not bounce off very much. If you do an active stroke though, the power of the sponge is very easily activated ( a little like the power was easily accessible with the Andro Nuzn 50 rubbers)

Hmm, i dont really see how that is consistent with laws of physics.
