Tbh I think Tenergy is a cringe name. But it's not bad-bad.
Butterfly codes are the crappiest part of their names though. These things are development codes for a reason: because they aren't commercial product names.

Tenergy Spin
Tenergy Power
Tenergy Omni (or Balance or whatever)
Tenergy Arc

Make product names! And give them different initials, so people can shorten it.
If I can do it in 5 minutes, someone who gets paid for this can surely do it in a week.

Its even goofier when you realize that the name is based off of the old Rasant rubber that was introduced pre-poly ball. I think it was like 2011 or 2012. Still Rasant, just Rasant-er 😂
The one thing to say for Rasant is that the name derives from German where it means Rapid.
Not knowing that maybe makes it goofier but given that Andro are a German company it kinda makes sense then.

Personally I've never even considered Victas. I had a look yrs ago and couldn't figure what might be suitable and the names just annoyed me! 😂

The product name should mean something to the end-user. Not some random gibberish thought up by the R&D people. 🤬

Gozo Smash, Gozo Loop and Gozo Far Table automatically mean something to the users.

Have always wanted to write about this but didn't have a chance.

According to Nakamura in an interview with Table Tennis World back in 2018:
Victas = Victory + asu (tomorrow in Japanese)
V = Victas
S = Sticky
O = Out-pips
e.g.
V>01 = First rubber released by Victas
V>15 = Inverted rubber released by Victas in 2015
V>20 = Inverted rubber released in 2020

XX (2 digits) = Inverted
10X = Pips
30X = For 44mm ball
40X = Tacky
> = Victas products will exceed your expectations

The best is the tenergy (tension - energy) but I'm not sure which is the worst.

Also I really dislike lineup naming rather than individual names, like donic blue-xxx which serie is newer, which is faster.

My vote would be victas, probably I couldn't remember my rubber's name.
second worst could be Joola like Dynaryz ZGX wtf is that?
Dynamic + rhythm + ez ?

We need a law that prohibits the names... Just "company t h r d s H"
- t = top-sheet thickness
- h = pimple height
- r = pimple radius
- d = pimple distance
- s = sponge height
- H = sponge hardness

Absolute worst:
1) Victas — the naming is totally confusing, and the models sound bad. I bet even the brand fans can get confused about their product line.
2) Donic — unless you deliberately study their product names, you can't tell these apart, let alone know their qualities.
3) Joola — their addiction to acronyms and horrible made-up names are tearing my brain apart.

Absolute best:
1) Andro — until recently, I adored their V, R, and C line-ups which were easily understandable + the sponge handness included in the name. I know they recently released N U Z N... but at least they have sponge hardness included in the name.
2) Yinhe — God bless a person who invented adding Super Soft, Soft, Medium, Hard, and Super Hard in the rubber names. Plus, I appreciate their Galaxy-like naming, which makes naming consistent.
3) Butterfly — although you must first learn 05, 19, 64, and 80 names and what they mean, I appreciate how smoothly they transitioned from Tenergy to Dignics and the numbers stayed the same. And although Tenergy sounds better than Dignics (sounds like someone from Joola made it), the names are still good.

not bad names per say but i always wondered what the reasoning was behind xioms country rubbers - vega europe, asia, japan, china, korea.

european = stereotypically a more spin orientated game so the rubber is softer
china = hard sticky rubber

the rest just confuses me, what makes the vega korea good for koreans 😅

I'm not sure but as I remember, they released started with europe, asia, pro, elite.
china, japan, korea, tour, intro etc have been added in later generations.
probably china is more stressed out version of asia :D they're more marketing names,
although Xiom may place in top 5 in naming.

Me Gozo is no brute Ork who only likes to smash things. Me Gozo went to University too. Me did one module on Business Marketing in University.

If Gozo makes rubber, me give easy to remember funky name. Players easy remember, no difikult name like Dynacircus or Dynasomeshit!

Gozo Noob ( 35' ), Gozo Not so Noob ( 37.5' ), Gozo Hobby Player (42.5' ), Gozo Awesome Hobby Player ( 45' ) and Gozo Pro ( 47.5' ). Anything else it will be custom made. Regular OB players can't handle anything above 47.5.

Then there will be Gozo Smash where pimples are large and short for your smashing needs.
Gozo Looper where the pimples are long and thin for looping to your heart content.
Then there is Gozo Far Table where the sponge are thicker and the top-sheet are thin.

Simple. Not Komplikated. You know what to buy by just the name.

Then me make nice matrix chart like Butterfly. Make nice ball flight path pretty pictures like Donic. Me hire beautiful people make Tik-Tok video explain all Gozo product in under one minute.

NB: All rubber will come in Lime Green offering. Promise! Cross my heart and hope to die!

you forget the thicknesses.
Gozo rubbers: underweight 1.5mm, thin 1.8mm, normal 2.0mm, thick 2.1mm, fat 2.15mm, obese 2.2mm and morbid = max

A great summary, thank you!

I still think those labels should be used most for internal use, and they should give them more meaningful names for market them better. Especially all the numbers mean very little.
