Hello!

Today, I played with a friend's Hurricane Long 5 for a game and absolutely loved the forehand. When I got home, I tried to find it and it turns that it was a Hurricane Long 5 Light

https://prott.vip/Product-Details.aspx?productcode=Long5Light

I couldn't find exact information on how it differs from the regular HL5. What are the differences? Is it in weight (hence the light) or are there other differences as well?

Thanks and keep pongin'!

I can only compare my HL5 Light to my regular HL5 and the HL5 light is a different blade in some good ways. First the HL5 light handle is kid sized. It's even smaller than the one on the HL5, which is why I have to use grip tape.. I believe the ALC type is also different as it more flexible and feels even more like a wood blade than the HL5 but still retains the most of the speed. The flexibility of the HL5 Light means it is less precise on the hardest hits as the blade flexes more but on everything else it is more forgiving and has a better feel than HL5. I don't remember the exact weight of the blades but at least on the spec sheets ist 89+-1gm for HL5 vs 88+-1gm for HL5LL.

Thanks, this is very useful. A few follow-ups:

Is the Light more heady heavy feeling because of the smaller/lighter handle?

How is the BH in comparison to HL5 but also just in general?

Which one do you prefer of the two?

HL5LL did not feel any head heavier than the HL5. The one that feels head heavy is the Donic version, the Ovtcharov No.1 Senso which I also own, even though it is overall lighter. Can't really tell much difference in speed on the backhand but it is in general a bit more forgiving.

I prefer neither as I have moved on to the Stiga Inspira Hybrid carbon. The ones I have, have a large head size, is fast and feels like the best of both worlds combination of the HL5 and an ALC blade, with the control and confidence of HL5 and the speed and crispness in the backhand of an ALC. I've the review somewhere in the forum. Except for the special feeling of grab and hold feel of that one HL5 my friend owns that inspired me, which my own HL5s do not have, and he could not find another that does, the Stiga Inspira Hybrid carbon does everything I need it to. The Stiga does everything better for me than the all the HL5s I own.

Maybe I should have gone with a W968 but the idea of paying close to $700 or more for a single blade put a pause on the idea even though I have spent at least that much trying various blades in the HL5 ilk.
