It depends on where you live. Here in the suburbs of Washington DC it's about $70 an hour.

Depends on the coach really.

I pay my coach $40 Australian per hour here in Perth. That includes table hire, which is a bargain frankly, as he's really good.

Other more prominent coaches who have been around a while and coached at state or national level charge $80-$100 per hr.

National level players turn coaches are normally USD30+
Seldom reaching the USD60 mark.

Taiwan's mean salary is lower compared to global standards by about 3 folds, but coaching provides medium to high income when compared domestically

I would think a 3 time olympian is not really the average for a coach.

If you take baseball batting lessons from a former MLB player it also will be more expensive than lessons by a former D2 college player.

Between 30 and 50€ in France for coaches ranked until n°100 French. A n°150 charged me 30€ last year, which is quite fair.

That's really cheap. Most expensive chess coaches charge 150+€/hr in France.

there are just too many good players and coaches here. Supply and demand.
but also you have to think in Yen terms. Yen is very weak against Euro so if you come here in Japan, most things will seem cheap to you...except perhaps French wine or cheese because of transportation costs and various taxes.

you have to compare the rate to the hourly base / minimum wage to have a fairer comparison. but yes it looks very cheap compared to chess coaching in France

About 25€/hour in Greece. This is the rate charged by active players in A1 division and former players turned to coaches.

Rating coaching level bases on playing level is really a big mistake/error. I have seen many top former national players coach amateurs clueless. Many of these coaches basically just feed balls without correcting or improving the amateurs' skill.

I think the problem is more their potential lack of motivation rather than skill

they choose coaching because they can't find a job outside TT, but they don't enjoy teaching old ladies or amateurs. At least they'd rather coach promising kids. But thats not where the most $$ is to be made..

Nor cal- i was paying $45 an hour for two of my coaches, then my third coach charged me $60 for a session which would be up to 2 hours if i had the endurance lol.
