You are right
Need to become a special somebody, else you are just the same as other thousands of kids/players and become another nobody.
But the thing about that is I’m not like the other thousand kids my age, the other kids are lazy and sitting around While their parents figure things out for them, the other kids are sleeping in while I am up working hard. People who say it’s impossible give me more of a reason to prove them wrong.

Yep
No matter what talent you are gifted since birth, you need a strong resource group to nurture and develop it. Those that knows how to bring forward results (with good track records) will always be a better bet no doubt.

Rocking up to training with no quality training partner is actually a major setback.
With so much catching up to do, one cant afford to waste time like that.

Ps, kids our side sacrifice holidays and vocations.

I remember Feng Yi-Hsin’s mother treating me to hot pot once and the family of 4 was there with me. The family (less fyh) were leaving for holiday in Japan the next day, and leaving Feng behind who had to train. I asked if he wants to join the family holiday and he said he can’t and for like 6 years he didn’t go on a single family holiday.

This was probably 8-9 years ago and till now, no family holiday for him still. He is near WR50 though and his parents has spent probably near a million dollars if not more.

Feng comes from a TT family with his uncle being a national player too.
Not everything requires money

@KTableTennis , I like your attitude. Hitomi Sato grew up poor and had to borrow a paddle to play when she was young. Zero people on TTD expected Benyamin Faraji to beat Wang Chuqin. Ngl, everything is stacked against you, but go after your dreams. And be sure to enjoy your journey where ever it takes you.

I started playing table tennis at the age of 11 in August of 2024. After just 11 months of training I achieved a usatt rating of 1807. In my previous tournament I came close to beating a 2130 and a 2048 taking them both to the 5th game. One of my biggest wins is when I beat a 2000 in a match. My goal is to reach the top 50 in the world for men’s table tennis. My coach says I am already playing like a 1900 and I beat most if not all 1900s that I play. I have a lot of support from my club and I have so much love and passion for the sport. Here is what my training is like!

Monday: 30 minutes of serve practice before school, then a 2.5 hour training session with my training group of other kids a little better and more experienced than me

Tuesday: 30 minutes of serve practice before school. 45 minutes of consistency practice with my robot at my table at home

Wendsday: 30 minutes of serve practice before school, then a 2.5 hour training session with my training group of other kids a little better and more experienced than me

Thursday: 30 minutes of serve in practice before school, then 1 hour of drills at home on my robot at home.

Friday: 30 minutes of serve practice before school, then a 1 hour training session with my training group of other kids a little better and more experienced than me then a 1.5 hour private lesson.

Saturday: 3 hour training session with a 2000+ partner

Sunday: rest day and meditation

Note-every day I run for my track team and every night I do some positive thinking and visualization/meditation

What are your opinions?
I thought about you a lot since you posted … and then I saw your video. you are talented. to be playing like this, after one year - amazing … and after reading your posts, you also have good working ethics. that is very important.

but … yes, there is aways a but.

your footwork really sucks. you say you are practicing serve a lot, but it is still rather mediocre. so this is what I would do.

forget about the numbers. they’re just numbers. I play with 12-14 year olds a lot. the other day we had kind of a tournament in the club. 11 years old and 12 years old played against each other. 11 year old beat the 12 year old. then the 12 year old beat me and I won against the 11 year old. they are both doing well in their categories, both being top 10. but USATT means shit. it gives you a sense of a progress, maybe, but what counts is how you play, how you handle pressure and how you win under pressure. and USATT won’t tell you that.

further more - double the practice time. basically you are practicing supervised 3 times a week which is not even remotely enough. when I was your age I practiced cca. 7-9 times a week. before every afternoon practice I did 1 hour of serve practice. when I was your age I was a regional champion, national vice-champion single, doubles and mixed doubles, and national team champion. and at that time I started to practice even more, got invited to the national selection practice camp … but then got into unlucky streak of injuries and that was quite a stopper for my development, unfortunately. I took me a looong time to get back on the same level, which just shows how much playtime means.

my biggest advantage was that my dad was a coach. one of the best, actually. he was one of the best players of his generation so I also had a great sparring partner. that was my biggest advantage. and I still needed more than a year to get back where I was … and just as I was starting as a junior my dad got sick and was moving from a club to a club in search for the best possible practice environment and that’s where basically it all ended for me as in the Junior category you develop the most as a player.

so practice hard. don’t forget about physical part of the process. and try to stay healthy. and take every possible moment to be behind the table, playing.

you really need to go and see those thousands of kids working harder than you, probably have move discipline than you. These are your competition.
they have no time to be on TTD

you need to learn to look up, and not look down.
otherwise, you will only think your journey is a arms reach away.

My friend has a son who this year won the North American under 10 snowboard championship. The mom bought an apartment in Colorado and spends 6 months of the year there just so the boy can train. They have equipment sponsors and team training.

I asked if his goal is to go to Olympics. She said it is their goal, but realistically they are at serious risk of falling behind. Even though he is the top snowboarder right now, other wealthier families relocate all across the world so that they have access to snow all year round.

They arent getting as much training as other boys, and it will start to show. Maybe the boy will surprise everyone. But scientifically, training hours and the quality of training sets the elite athletes apart.

Maybe boxing is the only exception to this trend. Sometimes boxers start late in life and become champions.

For where you are now, US 2500 would be a great achievement. I think you can do it, but then comes the hard part. 2500 to 2700 is more difficult than 0 to 2500, and you'll need to be on that path within the next few years to have any chance to go further. 2700 to top 50 is still more difficult, simply impossible for most even very talented players.

To become top 50 at anything in the world is damn near impossible. I remember when I was OPs age, I thought I was going to grow up and become a famous actor lol.

Good to have goals, better to have a plan B. One day my dad took me to a park where there were a bunch of homeless people. He told me that these people didnt plan to fail, but rather, they failed to plan.

Also, you have to trust guys like Tony who has so much experience in player development. Its good OP has goals, but it seems like he needs to humble himself a little bit. Its good to have confidence, but you also have to be humble enough to pivot when you need to.

Wishing OP luck on his journey.

I overheard one of our former youth players telling someone he wants to reach 2. Bundesliga and I thought zero chance. He is like 15, has played for less than four years and is still below 1400 TTR. I think for OP to become a pro player would already be a massive undertaking and a better goal than top 50.
