Warranty on Table Tennis Blades

so, about a month ago I bought Xiom Hugo ALX Supreme Pro. yesterday I wanted to change rubbers and after peeling the rubber off the blade, the top layer splintered badly. I am attaching some pics as well. I noticed during the first rubber change, that the top layer is quite fragile, but strangely enough, only on one side - the other side is okay, no problems there. so - it could be poor assembly or even poor material - is there a chance that Xiom would warranty this kind of a blade?

Unfortunately this happens with a lot of new blades from various brand, which is why people seal their blades before gluing on the rubber the first time, to avoid exactly this.
I do feel that if manufacturers use these thin or fragile outer plies, they should seal it in the factory. The cynic in me thinks that they'll sell more blades this way.

aren’t Xiom blades factory sealed? maybe they sealed only one side … 🫣

1) doht use glue next time, i only use gluefilms see thread
2) factory-sealed (i believe it's robot-sprayed on) blades are awesome, e.g. SANWEI

1) glue is the only option for me. never had any problems prior to this blade, and I used a lot of different blades and rubbers
2) Chinese blades unfortunately don’t have a good handle for me, every chinese blade handle causes discomfort in the wing area, unfortunately, otherwise I would be playing with DHS Ma Long 5
3) again, glue is the only option, cannot get sheets on regular basis
4) thanks for the advices but as you see, they are not good options for me, might be helpful for someone else

in any case, i was referring to films not sheets.

This is precisely why I aways seal my limba blades. 10+ years ago I had some really bad luck with the Stiga Eternity VPS V and neither Stiga nor TT11 offered any sort of warranty that put me off from using them until this year.

well, I have limba blade, too, and doesn’t have as much problems as this one which is koto blade …

Check with your seller. This doesn't look like you have been careless or done anything wrong. They probably want to know what glue have been used as well. But always seal your blades, no matter how smooth the surface is.

DHS no.15 which I also bought at their store.

btw - like I said - I was under the assumption that Xiom blades come factory sealed.

I guess, nothing bad happens if there is an additional thin layer of Rev. nr. 3 sealer applied - even if there was some kind of factory sealing already, but the look of the blade surface does not fully confirm that.

I had sealed a blade with a special sealer by spinfactory and after glueing and removing a rubber i also got lines of the wooden fibre detach from the blade. it seemed like the sealer actually made the wood softer.

it is quite peculiar, because one side of the blade has no problems at all. also, taking rubbers of is much easier on one side, but on that side it was Hurricane, which always almost jumps off the blade when you want to remove it. 😂

almost like one side is protected and one is not. I did apply two layers of Xiom Protector over the weekend, works nice on TMXi, will see if it helps on ALX, too … a bit bad situation as I wanted to sell this blade, cannot really connect with it but after this it’s going to be hard …

to be honest, ive seen these kind of problems alot around me recently. people didnt seal, paid alot of money for their blades and experienced splintering. a noticeable case just happened a few weeks ago on a friends nittaku acoustic

the issue for me is that when you seal, the rubbers dont stick to the blade properly anymore, especially boosted hurricane. yes, you can seal and sand, but then there is a higher chance for splintering again and sanding is just such a hassle

the only brand so far that is reliable imo is butterfly, no need to seal and no splintering (in my experience)

Don't be silly . Sanding carefully using a light block is a simple job that takes a couple of minutes.

Plenty of cases here on the forum of Butterfly blades splintering and worse, literally coming apart at the seams 😂

just shared my experience here
I personally also use an XIOM blade, sealed and sanded. I dont mind it too much but obviously would be better if those steps could be skipped. with the bty blades I had, I never sealed and didnt have any problems. I had a XIOM 36.5 ALX before that got defect after sealing. sent that blade back to XIOM and they replaced it, which was nice of them. still, there seem to be more problems with quality control

Actually this might expose defect in the blade, so in a way it's a fortunate situation if one can get the blade replaced. If you varnish it maybe the top ply is protected but the blade will do funky stuff depending if you hit a not (well) glued patch.

Nevertheless I would expect better from Xiom.

DHS no 15 isn't even that strong of a glue, can't imagine what a Free hack pro would have done to it.
