Should a beginner-intermediate player play with intermediate equipment or just grow into high level equipment?

what i see at the lower level, among players not receiving the best coaching, is that if the blade is too hot as in sticky or fast or probably both, they send topspin way long. then the instinct is to react by touching the ball softer and softer. when the paddle is less sensitive they learn to lean into the spinny ball better/faster
That makes a lot of sense. Maybe the Viscaria is too fast for me, as someone mentioned above I will look into the Butterfly Korbel. Also wow are you the real Cole?

if you have a coach then go for Viscaria. Don't worry about what other people say. If your coach says D09c on the forehand, then go ahead and get it (I think D09c plays like a well boosted hurricane 3 blue sponge anyway). Backhand, yeah, I would agree with Rozena than any Dignics on that side.

Backhand strokes are just more compact so you should use a softer, bouncy rubber.

Forehand strokes, if done properly, should be larger and quite explosive so harder, D09c rubber works well there.
Trusting my coach does seem like the best bet, I will ask him about the Rozena on BH too, thanks

This may be out of topic or just a inquiry,
You said you have a coach, right? How long have you had your coach?
I am only asking as using a premade bat for 4yrs, is not ideal or recommended by coaches,
He/she would have advised a cheap but durable wood blade. Anyway…

The suggested 5ply Korbel or 7ply Clipper is good way to go - lifetime, depending on how much you progress and like. Adjusting in rubbers based on your skill in your is best way. The 2 blade mentioned can/may take you to higher skill level - as long you do have coaching.

You should re-consult your coach on the blades mentioned so coach can provide insight and recommendation - after all your coach knows how you play

This is exactly what I was trying to convey. Heed these words, it took me ages to get to this point on my own.

Personal opinion - as an fast improving 2 year player - get a middle of the road set up.

You current setup is not good at all. Not only too old, but was sub-par to begin with.

Viscaria is too big of a jump IMO, too fast and too hard to control, especially with fast rubbers.

Choose a good offensive 5 of 7 ply all wood blade, (I chose Acoustic Which I love, but it's expensive). Something that you'll be able to control, but also fast enough that it won't limit you in the foreseeable future (you can be a very high level player with this kind of blade).

Same with Rubbers. Pick something good, but not too advanced. G1 (FH) and C1 (BH) will be a great chiose, again - they're good and fast and spinney enough for basically anyone not trying to go pro. But they're easier to play with then the expensive adaced Butterfly rubbers the pro's use.

I've made huge improvents use this level of setup, just pick something you like within the "middle" range, both blade and rubbers - and stick to it for a long while (minimum 1 year IMO). You'll get used to it and if and when you'll feel you need something even faster (most amatures will never need something faster) you can upgrade down the line, it might take a long time. This type of blade rubber combo can be very dangerous to any opponent if you master it. (again, assuming you're not trying to go full time professional player top 100 in the world).

Good luck! IMO you'll also have more fun with this type of good/fast/CONTROLABLE setup.

Get a Petr Korbel with two rozena, stop worrying and start hitting. Change in a year or two if you really want.

Table tennis is a control game, and unless you have ton of it it just make things harder and painfull.

If you can't constantly open-up on both wings, pull crazy shots when out of position, read serves correctly and block high spin shots, you don't need a faster setup, you need more skills.

My coach def recommended something better, it was always just a matter of me being broke LOL. That's why this bday opportunity is so big for me and I greedily leaned towards asking for top of the line stuff... 😅

I think I'm between these setups below now

1. Korbel / Rozena on both
2. Korbel / Fastarc G1 FH / Fastarc C1 BH

Why do you recc Rozena's over the G1 / C1 ?

Any setup will do. I played with G1 and they are really good.

The idea with the rozena is you can switch to the tenergy serie as you progress, if you want. But the G1 is a tamed down T05. Really good and last a long time.

Your pick really.
Thanks, I would probably choose the more durable one since im on budget

The truth is all of the ideas for equipment you've mentioned in this thread are totally fine. Viscaria + D09c is not some crazy fast and uncontrollable combination, but Korbel + Rozena or G1 are also very decent. And it sounds like you're pretty serious about training and are already getting coaching, which is the most important thing.

If someone else is paying for it, then feel free to get whichever blade you like the most (Viscaria, Korbel, Clipper, whatever). You don't need to be scared of getting something too fast from among those options. But I would consider the cost of replacing the rubbers. Will you be willing/able to buy replacement rubbers every few months? When it comes to equipment, having fresh (or at least not dead) rubbers will matter much more for developing and expressing your game than exactly what type of blade and rubber you choose.

Thanks for your input...and making me more undecided! XD

Maybe I should go the middle path and ask for the Viscaria since I dont have to replace the blade often, and go with the cheaper rubbers. I definitely don't want to have to buy D09c frequently, I am broke AF.

Viscaria with Vega Europe is a great idea. Affordable rubber that's slow enough to learn to control quickly, yet can deliver plenty of speed and spin for the intermediate level

Thanks for the recc, it looks a bit cheaper than the Fastarc/Rozena. Would you prefer it on FH or BH?

So.. What would you (generally/generically) advise as a step up from a 4yo Premade Buster combo? you probably know those bats better than most
At that point I think you would have some idea what style you wanted to play. A generic upgrade without going carbon might be v7 with tiger unlimited for $65
