Lighter BH rubber for CPEN setup

I can't believe how heavy this blade is, (my FL super LYJ is only 85gr)
Is there any way to lose weight?

Also i think it would be much easier to just change the blade. All of my cpen blades are under 85 gr after sanding, so 94 gr some crazy high weight for a penhold blade.

In my experience this makes the problem worse, not better. What are you sanding with? How much?
I use really fine sandpaper, like 3000-5000. And it does not work with some rubbers(Stiga DNA Pro, for example), the grip does no change at all, but it never become worse. I can't really say how much, because i make it by feel with every rubber individually. But with rubbers that bite your fingers even by themselves like 09c it works beautifully and becomes really comfortable.

did you try gluing the rubber higher ? I used to to that and reduced the weight by 8-10gr (maybe it will be a bit head heavy)

Hello everyone, I’m back :D
I reduced the weight of my blade by sanding down the two outer limba plies, and surprisingly the weight only dropped by about 1–2 grams, but the blade actually feels much easier to play with. The vibration and ball feel have improved a lot, and I can clearly sense the blade’s power.

My current setup is:
  • FH: Hurricane 3 commercial, orange sponge, 41°
  • BH: Tenergy 64, 2.1mm
Some quick impressions: the Hurricane 3 commercial (orange sponge, 41°) feels quite difficult to handle, maybe because I haven’t tuned it yet and the rubber isn’t fully warm-up. I’ll try boosting it to see how much difference it makes.

Maybe I will piss some people off here. But my advice is to switch to shakehand.

I used to play Jpen and then Cpen with RPB. When I played Cpen with RPB, the overall set up was just too heavy. Plus, the inverted rubber on the backside really makes it hard to grip the paddle properly (I sweat a lot). I switched to shakehand 6 years ago and problem solved!

If the OP wants to stick with Cpen, then I would recommend short pips on the backhand side, without sponge or with very thin sponge. The short pips will actually help you grip the paddle easier.
Yeah, I have the same problem with sweat, but whatever — I mainly play for passion anyway, haha. I deal with it by wearing a wrist sweatband. I really admire Xu Xin’s doubles play, so I mostly use a C-pen blade just for playing doubles.

Rozena is about the same with the other tenergy and dignics rubbers, about 45g cut on viscaria, so you won't see any difference. Don't know about crazy bull.

Look into the 729 sky wing, it's a classic choice for bh on cpen. Medium-hard Chinese sponge and tacky topsheet, but light and extremely stable. It was designed for this very purpose. There's also the focus 3 snipe, heavier but also excellent rubber for bh.
I've used 729 focus 3 snipe for rpb, it's a 'do it all' light rubber, however it's not approved by ITTF, unfortunately, so as Sky wing it seems.

Here's some footage of me returning to penhold (again!!) for a week or two.
BH rubber is Focus III Snipe, it's quite good. Not sure what alternative legal rubber is there for focus 3, unfortunately...

very good backhand
I choosing Dig05 for my rbp because it's high-throw angle, i don't need open the angle of blade too much (so difficult with rbp), also I using xu xin's grip style, i feel that style is easier for rbp and stronger forehand.

Top light rubber for RPB bh that i have tried
- Victas ventus limber (former TSP ventus spin) - cut weight 40-41g
- Yasaka Rakza 7 soft - cut weight 40-41g
- Xiom omega 7 Europe - cut weight 43-44g
- Xiom vega Europe - cut weight 40-41g

Vega Europe and Rakza 7 can be rather soft, 7 europe and ventus limber slightly harder and offers more power

I'm using Viscaria (85g)+ xuperman forehand + Ventus limber backhand = total weight of 174g

How much wrist are you actively using? I think power should come more from elbow. Too much wrist will make it inconsistent.
Good luck
