I just bought two Sanwei Nova carbon.
One was thought as a main än the other a backup.
It turns out they are complete different designs.

Blade 1:
- thin core, thick outer layer, small handle and a little bit of flex. (Black box)

Blade 2:
- thick core. thin outer layer, thick handle (I like this part), stiff. (Silver box)

These are definitely two different blades. I bought it because it was suppose to have a 2 mm outer layer. The first one does, but not the second one.

Can Sanwei specs be trusted ???

The first blade has grip tape installed and is still thinner than the second one.

Edit:
I checked Sanwei’s video. It says 1.5mm outer layer OK, the composition looks like blade 1…

See it's sh*t like this that just puts me off a brand completely.
This wouldn't come to light for most people, as they would order one blade and not be super informed about the specs. But to get such wildly different specimens through QC just tells me there is no QC.
I was already put off by an earlier misadventure but this closes the door completely.

I wonder if they run out of thick hinoki and tried to make up for it using thicker Kiri. Kiri is very light so it will make the blade lighter.

@mocker88 This may explain why your second batch was really under the spec weight 90 +-5g.

You bought both from the same shop? Was it direct from sanweisport.com or some other vendor?
It was from the same shop, but two different batches. The dealer has no blame in this they get what they get. They can’t check every aspect of a product, that’s the manufacturers job.

I think Sanwei made a mistake on this second batch.

@Andrea Jiang,
Hi what’s your take on this ?

I must say that the second blade has a big thick really nice handle. And due to the low weight (84g) it has a low balance.
It is a really good build.
The only thing it’s a bit on the stiff side.

If I could I would probably get a second one like it. But due to Sanwei’s accuracy in blade making I don’t think I dare risking it…

Yes it's really strange. These aren't small variations. Totally different blades. I'm just sorry that this has happened and I have contacted my agent at Sanwei and told her to inform @Andrea Jiang that she might have some explaining to do here.

Yeah I was wondering if they were from different batches whose specifications have changed over time. So maybe both are 'correct to specs' but just have different specs. They both look well-made. Also interested in what light Andrea can shed.

Yes the old batch is thin core and thicker outer plies and the new ones exactly like your new as well.
I know it’s strange but this explains the weight difference. Kiri is a really light type of wood and lots of it means less weight.

The new blade I like except it’s stiffer and faster. And due to the beefy handle (check this on your batch too) it has a great balance. On top of this the build quality is actually better I think.

It has both a higher frequency and a higher bounce so it’s definitely faster.

I can’t use it as a back up but I don’t want to change it It’s the next step up…

You can’t change the spec this much without saying so it not honest. The spec say a thick outer layer made from hinoki. Only the first blade matches this description…

As you may recall from another thread, the Nova Carbon is in my to-buy list, that's why I'm really interested in what you experienced. I'm not actually sure which of the two versions I would like. I think the blade on the left is consistent with what's shown in the Sanwei website.

But interesting, there's a review of the same blade. But his copy is close to your blade #2 (based only on the relative thickness of the outer layer to the core layer.

Hello, sir.
Thank you for your feedback. I will report this to our marketing department as soon as possible. Sorry again!

As you see, the left one is correct, the right one is the blade of our NOVA Carbon testing- batch, I'm so sorry the testing- batch is put into the market as a mistake. Maybe it was a careless act by our warehouse staff, I promise we will improve this processing.

May I know where you buy this testing- NOVA Carbon? We will give you a new correct version one.

Sorry again,

Sorry again,
I bought it from:
chtt.se in Sweden.

With the new blade I really liked the weight distribution and the handle. Since none of them are tested I can’t say anything about how they played…
But due to the stiffness it may just be another Canon carbon.

Yes he got the test blade as well. Another thing was the first blade came in a black box and the second in a silver box. That’s what triggered my attention. If not I may not have noticed it so quickly…

I just read the review again, i states that Sanwei sent the blade. I wonder if they knew they tested something that wasn’t official (or is it?).
