I know at least one table tennis store that does a much worse job, so maybe you can apply for a job there

When I got a shop to glue my rubbers for my bat, the cutting was so shabby done that the rubber edge was cut slanted in such that it exposed the sponge underneath. Resulted in edge table being unable to stay flat on the edge. I had to trimm it out at home by myself using a razor blade.

That particular one looks a bit annoying to use, but my wife's one cuts through multiple layers of fabric in one pass, even denim. If you have a good one they're super sharp

My experience is the complete opposite, I would never choose the 9mm one, because it bends too easily, making it much harder to get a neat cut along the edge of the blade.

I like this slight bend, and that it is thinner, it makes it easier to produce cut which is not V like (meaning bit more sponge than top-sheet, which is not what I want), and produce cut with slight overhang over the blade...

But I guess it's another example where the personal prefs matter ;-) Cheers.

I cannot understand why shops doing this job don't use a rubber cutting press, like this Sanwei one.
So many places do a horrible job and it's just bad press (excuse the pun) for them whereas a perfectly cutvrubber looks sooo good!

I know one reason why: because there's a lot of older shop owners that are just too stubborn. Too stubborn to admit they're too old to tell a good glue job from a bad one, too stubborn to fathom the idea that there's better ways to do things than what they're been doing for decades, and too stubborn to even entertain the possibility that they've been doing things badly for the same decades.

Excuse the bitterness.

One shop I know, the old guy just screws it up because he's too old and his son (my age, so also getting old) doesn't do anything about it. Another shop I know doesn't even have a scale to weigh blades. Or, they did, but the battery ran out months ago. When I asked if I should go across the street and get some new batteries for them, they looked at me like I was trying to explain quantum physics.
I've seen that same second shop glue a bat, and even if the result looked better than the first shop, it still needed sidetape just to look decent enough.

i saw it live
i would do quicker with a scissors or blade
but cut is not much power usage and clean.

the blade is like few dollars for 300 cuts, so cost or replacement blade is cheap too.
it would be a good investment for shops

without joking, we have a member at the club who regularly receives used rubbers from top level amateur players. those rubbers shrink somewhat.. so he finds himself a second hand blade and he glues the rubbers on and then .... "no he doesn't" you think

Funny you post this, I just bought this exact one a few wks ago, €20 on Ali Express.
I haven't tried it yet but judging by the sharpness of it and the feel of it wrapped around the blade I think it's going to work no issues.

What are the dimensions of this oversized blade? Unfortunately I have only regular blades at hand, but I think something like not much bigger should be fine as long as it keeps round enough shape. So no cybershape allowed obviously. Is this blade kind of rectangluar?

I'm expecting to get the season from my current rubbers so all going well that's May 2026!
I would love to have the press also but it was too expensive.
I imagine a metal plate forcing the blade into the sponge with the racket on a chopping board should do it easily enough and will be quicker, tidier and easier than a box cutter or scissors 🤞
