Is it really the topsheet that makes H8s so heavy?
My commercial H8-80s 37° were between 44g cut to over 50g and the sponge hardness varied a lot (including too soft) but I never had a commercial or provincial DHS H3(N) (37° to 40°) weighing over 50g except one Nittaku H3 Neo.
The H8-80, especially the commercial one, had some pretty terrible qc and honestly i have heard all commercial DHS rubber have terrible qc (ur commercial H3N must be really lucky). I think that provincial rubber are quality wise better, and national even more so

The 80 sponge also reacts worse to booster than the 20 sponge, which is why most pros who use H8 use the 20 sponge version so that can boost it to make it a faster feeling H3N I presume
But I think the H8 sponge reacts really well to booster and is very fast.

I don't know the numbered name of the H8 sponge.

I believe only commercial H8s have the H8 sponge, provincial and national H8’s have the 20 sponge, at least on prott. I think this is because like I said the 20 sponge is the best sponge for boosters, at least for high level players

I wanted to write a small review for H8-20 Provincial. I’m using it 38 degrees boosted two layers on my BH of my WCQ blade.

The speed is good, just slightly slower than 09c. It’s faster than H3 for sure. Spin levels are better than 09c but I find 09c generated it easier than H8-20. It also is demanding to open up on BH with H8-20. The ones i hit tho are deadly and super spinny and quick. The throw angle is lower than 09c’s which doesn’t help me with my block tbh. I’ve started to appreciate the higher throw angle of 09c for block, and I find that with H8-20 I’ve had to adjust my blocking technique, but otherwise blocking felt relatively easy. Overall, I really like this rubber and since 09c is far too expensive, H8-20 at $45 usd is quite a nice price to continue with long term, especially considering the durability. I will consider to go down to 37 degree hardness boosted 2 layers though when my current sheet wears out to see if I like that one better for blocking and open ups

Thank you for the review. I was curious about this rubber since I first heard about it awhile ago since I used H3N 37° on BH and am looking forward to trying it out when PROTT.VIP ships it out with my Skyline 2 BS.

Having tried my friends provincial 8-80, it felt like basically a DHS version of 09c and I felt really good and comfortable with it. My friend who’s going back to china is going to buy me a sheet to try on my BH. All of a sudden, despite the good parts of 8-20, I wonder why I never went for 8-80!

Have you played some more with 8-80 / 8-20? How do you feel the 2 compare now? Want to try H8 for BH on my backup blade but still undecided which sponge should I choose. I'm going to boost it

I’m switching to the 8-80 provincial on my BH. I find it easier to open up with and it has just slightly, if not the same, spin levels as H8-20 with more speed than the 8-20. Plus the throw angle is higher and I’m used to 09c so 8-80 is just more suitable to me. The short game of 8-80 is slightly worse than 8-20 but it’s not like anyone will struggle with it. I tried 37 8-80 boosted once and like it more than 38 8-20 boosted twice.

the rubber seems to have very high demands at the moment so harder to get. It's basically a H3 pro with softer topsheet ideally for BH. My most favorite Chinese style BH rubber.
Are u referring to 8-20 or 8-80

H8-80 feels nice and easy to play, but it lacks power and spin compared to H3, and it doesn't react well to boosters, so I just switched back after just a month of trying. Beside, even the 38 deg version feels too soft while being abnormally heavy, even heavier than, say, my 42deg H3.

I disagree, one layer of booster is enough to turn it into basically D09c. Buy the provincial version too because the weight is better and commercial version is shit

Even with the boosted national version, it's still nowhere near the D09C. For one, it's just too soft for the modern ball. Try looping with your BH 2-3 meters away from the table, switching back and forth with D09C on the other side and you'll see what I mean. It's not even as spinny or powerful as LAC. H3, if you can handle it, is a much better option for the BH if you want to go for Chinese rubber route.

I feel they are the same. I’ve tried both before extensively now. The hardness feels similar if ever so slightly 8-80 softer. But you are defo a better player than me and used to harder rubbers, considering you use the H3 hardness i use on my FH for ur BH!

Boosted prov/national version works on the softer or lighter balls like yinhe h40+ (tried it).
But on the DJ40+, it's so weak and I dont want to try boosting 3 layers on a 39 deg to makeup for the weakness.
