Played a lot of nintendo when I was in my early teens, discovered online gaming in 2002 with Diablo 2 and played that for two years with many lvl 99 characters on online hardcore mode, then got into competitive gaming from attending local lans with friends. One of my friends who I played soccer with was on the national team in Counter-Stike 1.6. I also heard about high level Quake. I had a collection of "frag movies", kinda like skating culture. Most people didnt know what e-sport was at that time. In 2004, I joined a Danish clan in Soldier of Fortune 2 and I competed at a high level on clanbase (website) for two years. The idea was that this was a game similar to Counter-Strike, but in the Quake-engine. The game never really took off in the e-sports scene, so when Valve released Counter-Strike: Source, I started a team of some of the best SoF 2 players from Sweden. We traveled around Europe to compete at tournaments, I entered the Norwegian national team and at some point I was signed with Team Dignitas. But I was starting to get too old to compete with the young players coming in. Some of the players who I played Counter-Strike with went on to form the new Ninjas in Pyjamas team in Counter Strike Go. These days, only a few players recognize my nickname from the old days, but I was blessed with being part of the start of e-sports. I only play chess on the computer now, but I hold the love for team games alive with table tennis.
