Is there such a big difference between all of the versions of DHS Hurricane 3?

I have been looking at reviews and stats of all of the versions. Some people say its a very big difference and some say there is barely any difference.
Can someone who has tried them all tell me if the difference is that big and if its worth to spend more on another version. I havent really tried any of them, only the commercial for a couple of sessions but didnt quite get the feeling right and i hadnt developed a good technique at that time.

Ok but what thickness? And what booster? there are a few colors, and is it really worth boosting every few months?
Thickness depends on you, I explained a bit what to do, if it's your first time, do 39 orange sponge. For first time users, no need to boost, get used to the feeling, and then see, later, sure, you can boost once and then again after 2-3 months, you have to discover your own feeling and experiment, takes a little bit! It's all in the blogpost attached :)

The thing with tt equipment review is you're depending on two things that are highly variable:

1) The feel of the reviewer
2) Consistency of product

Even for manufacturers like Butterfly who have excellent reputations for consistency, they can't control variations in a products that are inherently a little tricky to replicate. For example, people claim with incredible certainty FZD ALC is softer/harder/whatever than Viscaria on a whole, but they're the exact same construction with slightly different handles. How many examples of each did they play before coming to that conclusion? How much did outside comments about the character of the blade impact their perception? Did they try it with the same rubbers + glue (a whole other can of worms) at the same time under the same conditions?

You've no idea, and unfortunately it's cost prohibitive for most to confirm for themselves.

Anyway, VM's summary hits it on the head. The commercial version you can use to see if you like generally how H3 plays or not, and you would buy the provincial to play consistently. The National is not worth the markup for the average hobbyist.

Where I disagree is the alternatives - I've yet to try one that repilcates the feel. The latest I've tried is Sanwei and while the sponge is OK, the topsheet is absolute cheeks. I've tried 8 sets, and the tackyness goes away in about a week, and then it becomes very slippery. Not sure if it's a character issue with me. Loki on the other hand I have had good experiences with. Yinhe's a little hit or miss, but closer to Sanwei. No experience with 729.

Thanks @DrBean ! Yeah there is no 100% match for a hurricane 3 neo well boosted, if it existed many people would use it haha

I think the closest I've tried was Battle 2 provincial blue, but the throw was lower and I enjoyed that less, personal taste though.

Btw, I have about 10-15 rubbers now at home to review in depth, and you could consider many as possible/potential candidates/alternatives, will start sharing my findings soon :)

Whenever anyone asks or shares opinions about H3 and most other tacky rubbers, more often than not they ignore a super important factor.

The sponge hardness!

Get commercial and find out which hardness suits you best. For FH I would personally start at H40.

It takes a few sessions to break in so you have to stick with it and get to know it.

Then when you know it better you can test whether you want harder or softer version. Then you can experiment to see if you prefer it boosted.

Then if you know you'll stick with it. Start getting provincial version so the quality is more consistent and lasts longer.

Agreed, I advice 39 to start off on FH as a first time user though :)

Hi, gonna give you my inside on it after 8 years using h3 neo only:

-The first rule is under no circumstance buy the regular h3 neo (only go for provincial or national / player versions), regular its beyond crap and has big quality issues, better buy anything else

-The second rule its if yout are not going to boost the h3 neo, then better buy anything else. Dont listen to people that says that it can be played unboosted because its like losing 50% of the rubber strenghts for free. At that point buy a big dipper, sanwei national or butterfly rubbers.

-The third rule its on the hardness, for the backhand you can play either 37° or 38°, I would recommend 37° to almost everyone. For the forehand, you could play 40°, 41°, 42°, the bigger the number its like it needs more from your stamina to correctly activate while playing it, so I would recommend 41° for a regular man and 40° for a woman.

Agree with all the above, just a word of caution, if you use it for the first time, 41 is a brick, so Id still recommend 39, you will find it plenty hard unless your technique is already very good ;)

For backhand if you like hurricanes, 8-80 is fantastic and is also what I use. Otherwise plenty of great options out there! what do you look for on BH?
