Hi everyone,

I’m trying to find detailed info on an old blade: Donic Sstrait X5 (early 2000s).

I’m especially looking for:

  • Exact thickness
  • Wood composition (outer + core plies)
  • Any info on feel / flex / vibration
For info and background:
It’s the blade I learned to play with and have come to the conclusion that I actually prefer it to all other blade I have. It is however damaged and needs replacing before the inevitable happens.

I paired it with Tibhar EL-P and G1 and this combo allows me to block down our 1st team players, distribute on the young and still gives enough power to play my own games. (it’s nice to be useful. )

I would be looking for a replacement that comes really close in play characteristics. I have tried Yasaka Sweden extra and butterfly Primorac off- 2017.

Yse has a similar feel but faster and I don’t like it for my backhand and on passive shots.

Primorac is a total mismatch it feels like it’s made for a naive positive soft high arc looping style.

I found some images online. I’ll try to get a good close up of the side so the layers are visible.

Looks like limba, likely koto, ayous, with limba and ayous arranged along the handle direction and medial ply counter to it.

Limba seems obvious on the top ply, I can guess koto on the side picture, though higher quality pics would help and ayous is recognisable by its little holes when you look under the handle.

Have a look here for potential equivalents, but you're unlikely to find the same thickness as 5.3mm blades are very rare nowadays (also note this DB isn't exhaustive):
