Yinhe Big Dipper 5 40. Boost or no boost

I'm making a semi-educated guess here based on my previous experiences with other Yinhe rubber.

If you don't normally boost your rubbers my guess it this one will be fine without as well.

I say this based the following.

I used big dipper 4, H40 unboosted and it worked fine for me. I think BD5 will be near enough same sponge.

I also used Jupiter 3 Asia H41 unboosted and that also worked fine.

I'm pretty sure the J3 and BD4 have the same pale orange "Gods crossbow" sponge. Whilst not crazy fast it does have a bit of bounce to it.

I don't know what changes have been made for BD5 but if still using the Gods crossbow sponge it's probably fine without boost. At least for a first test.

Hope this helps.

Out of the package, mine was fast and softer than expected (feel was closer to a medium hard tensor than to a hard tacky rubber) - not hard enough to boost IMO. Have to try it again after a couple of months to see whether the factory tuning vents out for better or worse.

If you're used to boosted feel. You may as well boost.

With rubber I haven't tried before I normally like to play first without. Then boost and reglue. In most cases it's better boosted.

Not necessarily for spin or speed but always better feedback and feeling for the ball in my hand.

I don’t like the added weight (recently had tennis elbow) but I do like a good feel. But in my experience the blade is more important för this. I am planning to put the rubber on a Nittaku septear and a tibhar hybrid MK FX on the other side.

But all this is not decided yet . But I do like to hear that I don’t need to boost it.

I'm not sure the added weight of booster is something to worry about.

Sure, booster will add some weight initially. But only a few grams. Then it dries and a small portion evaporates loosing some weight.

Then you glue on your blade and cut off the overhang of expanded rubber. What you cut off is more than likely heavier than the amount of booster you added.

So it will balance out to nearly no difference.

It's more than You would expect, I measured it to 5-6 grams (immediately after boosting) on an uncut sheet. The part You cut off is ~1/3 give or take so that makes ~3-4 grams

To be completely honest, if you're getting injuries, and your bat doesn't weigh more than 200g, it's probably more likely due to underlying issues or technique than an extra gram or two.

Now if you do have some 500g slab, then okay, maybe.
I am sure I got it from a too heavy bat, and I cured it by going lighter. 10 grams top heavy makes a lot of difference...

A lot of that seems to gas out over time. Might even want to measure just a few days after boosting.

Won't make much difference unless You talk about weeks or even months. I have even left a boosted bat untouched for 1/2 year with the boost effect still there. Probably not the full effect but enough to make it playable. Boosting liquid is mostly oil and since only the edge is exposed it will evaporate very slowly...
