My idea was actually *not* to use Chinese rubbers. I played with 729 Origin for a long time. Then, a year ago, I put Yasaka Bolo Dragon on a Yasaka Extra Offensive blade. In the spring, I ordered a custom seven-ply blade and fitted it with Rakza Z (Max thickness). I’m still struggling to get used to it. Maybe the issue isn't the catapult effect itself, but the high throw angle—or perhaps the catapult kicks in too early. I'm still weighing my options.
One other detail added to my doubts: I was given a very old sheet of Dignics 09C, and on my blade, it isn't as fast as the Rakza. I also tried Stiga Helix 55, and that felt a bit slower too.
Thanks for the suggestion about reducing the thickness; somehow, I had overlooked that possibility. I play with a custom all-wood seven-ply blade featuring a hard outer layer of Makore.
I also thought this sound like a thickness issue. I don’t see people missing long much with 2.0 or 1.8 Rakza rubbers.

Let me see! I think:
- D09c: pure hybrid
- Codexx: tensor hybrid but have not played it
- Bluestar: tensor
- Nuzn: tensor hybrid
- K3: pure hybrid
- J&H: tensor hybrid
- Triple doube extra: i think pure hybrid but have not played it
- Dynarz ZGX: i think tensor hybrid but have not played it, maybe @Matt Hetherington can help us here

Hope that helps!
worth adding Codexx and Triple Double Extra to your testing list. Looking very much forward to your Vega China review, it was one of the first hybrids that came out, it used to be a "true hybrid" as in 50-50 kind of approach, but the new formulation just pushed it to the ever-growing list of "tensor-hybrids", which is very disappointing.

Yeah correct, and nuzn is a tensor hybrid so basically gets a good tensor and adds more linearity, so for people coming from tensors is in my opinion a win win. And for people coming from Chinese, the easier activation makes it more forgiving on both the technique and condition (which is welcome on the legs), you trade off speed and spin given the correct technique but for us amateurs that's often less important :)
Whats ur opinion on the rasanter c53? is it a pure hybrid? and i heard that its basically a d09c alternative

I played through 3 sheets of C53. It quickly looses any semblence of tackiness. Does not play like a hybrid or chinese after breaking in.

Custom blade, nice @jkugin ❤️

Right so from waht you say, it is very plausible that coming from chinese rubbers, the throw angle + the max is the issue, I play with rakza z often too, and i dont like max, but i love 2.0, the trick is to play much more forward, and not so much upwards, so you can be more aggresive, but takes time to get used to, same as with dignics 09c :)

Btw, speaking on D09c, it is much faster than rakza z and has much more catapult, but only on the higher gears, initially in the lower gear is similar controlled, specially on the 1.9mm. So if you hit harder or receive a hard power loop, you will feel the difference!

Also last thought: makore is a hard wood so i would not put a very hard rubber on it, hard on hard usually has too much rebound and low dwell, but ofc it depends on how the rest of the blade is made, it can have a harder outer but a much softer rest, so that would change my thoughts.

So maybe try rakza z 2.0 and play more forward, or we can see together other options :D

Ps. Helix 55 should be pretty fast as its a tensor, or did you try the hybrid helix? :D
Thanks for the detailed explanation.

Regarding the blade, I chose a standard inner-ply configuration: five plies of Abachi, with Makore on one outer face and Basswood on the other. The total thickness is 6.1 mm.

As for playing more "forward" (attacking into the ball), that is indeed what I try to do, but the resulting combination of speed and spin ends up being too comfortable for my opponent to handle. I need to practice more.

Regarding the Helix: I tried the Helix Platinum 55 (the non-hybrid version). Even so, it felt a bit slower to me than the Rakza on soft and medium-paced shots.

I am considering other options as well. My list includes:
Xiom Vega China
Andro Cintac 52S
Glayzer 09C
Dignics 09C
Rakza Z Extra Hard

I would appreciate hearing your thoughts on these.

In any case, I plan to keep playing with my current setup until spring and see how it goes. Although I enjoy trying new things, I usually give myself time to really get a feel for the equipment; despite the frequent shots going off the table, I’m going to try to adapt to it.

As a last resort, I can also go back to the 729 Origin if I can't adapt to European rubbers.

Hello. It’s great that some manufacturers are releasing entire series of hybrid rubbers—hard, soft, and medium—so you can choose whatever suits you best. Chinese rubbers like the "Hurricane 3 Neo" come in one-degree increments, which is fantastic... but they require a booster. That’s why I like hybrid rubbers—especially when they come in full series. :)

Thanks in advance for your help,
I’ve read some of your articles, and I absolutely believe that you are an expert when it comes to equipment. Very few people specialize in so many different brands, models, and types of equipment—even in my country.
As you suggested, I should first describe my situation. I played table tennis from age 10 to 15, and picked up this hobby again two years ago. You can consider my level to be that of an adult who has trained with a coach at a club for two years. I use my BH more than FH. My coach thinks my arc, power, and short-game control are all pretty good.
On the FH, I’ve used Loki Arthur China and Rxton 3. On the BH, I’ve used Loki Kirin K5/K1. Paired with an all-wood blade. Half a year ago, I started using a Viscaria FL as my main blade, with Tibhar K1 Plus (FH) and Stiga Mantra Pro M (BH); this is still my current setup. The Mantra Pro suits me very well, but the FH rubber is a bit lacking for me now. I don’t think I’m at the level where I can fully exploit the performance of D09C/D05. So I chose G09C/Glayzer so that I can better progress to the Dignics series in the future. That is also why I originally asked for your opinion on this setup.
Thanks again.
Thanks @ZSQ , appreciate your kind words and I indeed try my best to analyse all brands and be independent ❤️ Sorry it took a bit to answer, it's busy at work, software nowadays is a mad world with AI! haha

But getting to your comment, you are probably a good intermediate, I know in China coaching is very good so you will have likely a good foundation as your coach says, I never dare to compare China levels to other countries, so for our standards, maybe you are an advanced even ;)

From what you say, you have a clasical setup of hybrid (or normal with Rxton 3) chinese FH and tensor BH with an all wood blade, nice and easy, I like that setup. Then you changed to viscaria which is a big change (maybe inner would have been a nicer step in between) and played with more advanced rubbers so to say. I have not played with K1 but players have mixed feelings on it. Mantra is a good rubber, i have tried, nothing wrong with it, so if you like it, keep it :D

D09c/D05 are indeed tough to use, if you feel like you are not there yet, no need to waste money, there are plenty of better options and cheaper!

So, in any case, now that I have more info on your situation, if you are going to keep the Viscaria, and you want to keep a hybrid forehand (but more towards pure hybrid or tensor hybrid), then you have many options! The key is what you want to play eventually with, and also what suits your technique and needs at the moment. For example:
- If you like the philosophy of D09c (pure hybrid, high throw, high catapult on high gear, low on low, great grip, high durability) but you can't handle the rubber itself yet, then go for Rakza Z 2.0 or Joola Trinity Dynamic 2.0 or Helix Hybrid 52.5 (or preferred hardness) as they all get you close to D09c but are more forgiving and have less catapult at the high gear. There are other options like Donic BlueGrip C2 but that one has more catapult in the middle gear, it activates easily. Glayzer 09c is in my opinion a good option too, but you will feel that the spin and speed are not comparable with D09c. But if it helps tame the Viscaria, then all good

So the key is, how much do you want to tame the speed of the viscaria:
- If a lot, and you like D09c philosophy, then go for Glayzer 09c or Rakza Z 2.0 or similar, the 'slower' ones
- If you don't need to tame the viscaria speed, and just want a D09c experience but with a bit more control and less price, then see what I mentioned above. I do feel that the Joola Dynamic will last longer than Helix Hybrid, doing a review of Helix hybrid very soon, so take that into account :D

Hope this helps! Happy to answer other questions you may have :D

I have skills to play with H3Nat or Prov & D09C with fast blade like Viscaria or similars but I'm 67 years old & handicaped with a prosthesis on the left knee so not in good shape to play with this kind of rubbers & blades so the reason is physically, I loved the low arc & fast power topspin & first class serves of a good H3 boosted but got 2 problems: quality consistency of H3 & my bad shape also loved how easy made the counters the D09C and having more speed than the H3.

For my age, my shape, my way of playing is far better for me NUZN 50 than D09C.
That makes sense @merlin el mago , age and condition are very important factors, taking good care of your body (you only have one!) is of course key if you want to play for a long time :D

Yep @J-fed , and to add to this, I saw the other day a stream of ZJ where he said that he doesnt like max on FH due to control issues. Our best club player (2nd division in NL, but played 1st division before) also never uses max on FH, and myself, i also dont like max on FH, matter of taste, but indeed Rakza Z on max or 2.0 is very different control wise :D

Yes @navuzor need to test Victas as well soon, im doubting between TDE or Xegna first, not sure!! Vega china review is coming this year, I'm starting very soon, wrapping up MK Pro/Hybrid and Helix Hybrid/DNA Hybrid soon!!

@Haito interesting, so after tackiness is gone in let's say a couple sessions, it's a Nuzn essentially or what does it feel like after that? I will test and review (it's a home in the package) but always nice to hear in depth from the ones who already know it well ;)

After 2 months of play, the center of the rubber visibly wears out. It changes color. Has issues gripping the ball. Then this area grows and ball starts slipping. C55 lasted a tad longer like 2 weeks longer. I play a lot of multiball so this might accelerate the process.

Thanks for extra info! Blade looks fine to me, basswood outer is a bit uncommon but if you like it, all good, some DHS blades have that too :D

I agree with you here @jkugin , best to first stick to the new gear for a while to get a good feeling, only if you hate it fully then change, but otherwise it takes a bit of time to get used to it. I'd perhaps get the rakza z 2.0 (I have not heard of a 1.8mm version) as that will improve control.

On the rubbers of your list:
- Xiom Vega China: need to test in depth, review coming soon!
- Andro Cintac 52S: I hope i can test it in the new year, its definitely on my list
- Glayzer 09C: Good rubber, used it for a good time on BH, but if you find razka z slow, you will find it also slow, its controlled first and foremost
- Dignics 09C: I think it will be too much for you, read my D09c review to understand why, if rakza Z makes you miss shots, D09c is the same but more of the same ;)
- Rakza Z Extra Hard: it's not bad, but i like other harder hybrids more, if you go above 52 ESN or so, I prefer Joola Dynamic, or Helix Hybrid or NUZNs etc. I tried the EH for a while on FH but never fell in love with it.

Would the Tibhar K3 Jade be considered hybrid despite supposedly "extremely high tack"? :)

If not, would it be the first non-Chinese full tacky? (Well, made by Tibhar/ESN, but one can acknowledge that it was after signing with Ma Lin)
Yeah for sure pure hybrid, true Chinese is fairly different than K3 :)
