Statement of the Chinese Table Tennis Association on Resisting Extreme Fan Behavior

Recently, the Chinese Table Tennis Association (CTTA) has noticed that some extreme fans have continuously engaged in verbal abuse, rumor-mongering, and personal attacks against national team coaches and athletes. This behavior has spread from competition venues to the internet, and further from online platforms back to live venues.

Some athletes have experienced interference during matches due to these behaviors; some coaches have faced middle-finger gestures and verbal abuse from individual extreme fans on the sidelines; and several coaches and athletes have repeatedly received abusive text messages, harassing phone calls, and private messages on social media, which severely disrupt their normal training, matches, and daily lives. The association has assisted relevant athletes and coaches in reporting these matters to public security authorities to pursue legal accountability for those responsible.

The CTTA always prioritizes the physical and mental health as well as the long-term development of coaches and athletes, firmly safeguarding their legitimate rights and interests. Next, the association will promote the establishment of a venue ban list system and strengthen order maintenance at match venues. False information regarding team management, tournament arrangements, athlete selection, and coaching staff line-ups will be handled in accordance with laws and regulations in cooperation with relevant departments.

Every honor achieved by the Chinese Table Tennis Team is a result of the dedication and hard work of generations of athletes and coaches, and cannot be separated from the long-standing care and support of table tennis fans. Every cheer and every bit of attention inside and outside the venue form an integral part of table tennis culture. We are willing to work together with fans, media friends, event organizers, and all sectors of society to build a rational, civilized, and inclusive table tennis culture—where passion has warmth, expression has limits, and venues maintain order.

It’s actually interesting to see whether there are still a lot of audience without sys and wcq in the tournament.
CNT fans always follow their players around regardless of who is playing. It may not be as much but it will be fine.

Nah, they don't understand their "culture", Tieba shows this is completely normal fan behavior and the CTTA is confused.

Now I seriously doubt that @NextLevel is a secret tieba user, or even a moderator there too.

Are they going to do anything with spectators using flash during the match. It happened in Tomo match today.

They should really take a hard stance on these type of spectators and kick them out and give them 1 year ban minimum on attending any event hosted by WTT/ITTF.

Harimoto: if the flash can’t kill you, it will make you stronger.

Great minds think alike...

If true, this person needs to be banned from the events for at least a year and made example of.
Using flash should warrant immediate expulsion from the venue. Also, a clear and resolute "no flash allowed" warning should be repeated at the beginning of every match.

I didn’t know about the flash issue but I think they should do something about the spectators childishly resisting to applaud great play and ultimate victory against Chinese players.
Maybe deduct social credits or remove child bearing rights (OK, silly idea, no country would do these things).
The shame they bring upon this great nation with that behavior. It’s like a form of silent hooliganism.

What parallel universe are we in.

Thailand Table Tennis have been doing well in recent times particularly the juniors. Many other associations need to learn from them and copy the way they do things as it seems to be working for them.
I hear TT is big in Malaysia and Indonesia too.
At international level though (AI tells me) that Indonesia is hamstrung by politics (foot shooting) and Malaysia by funding channels (badminton gets priority).
I wonder if these things have been successfully avoided in Thailand.

They had a sign no flash allowed at the last event but I’m not sure if there was a sign this time

Picks are all a bit obvious lol. I will agree with almost all of them except I will take Feng over Wim - I like Wim a lot and he has been hot, but the last two events including this one (Asian Games and here), Feng has been lights out.

Haha, Got two wrongs in the first three matches. Who knows it would be the time that SYB beats Hayata.

LJK played like he could not wait to get out of the stadium ASAP.
