How could he beat wcq 3:0, but lost to Lyj 0:4 ?

Well to be fair wcq either couldnt physically give it his best or mentally. Its been like that for a while, if you go back a year or further to watch his games dude moved a lot more. No idea why, just an observation.

I suspect it is the "Nothing to win until the next major and the Olympics" syndrome. He just can't get up as hard for the every day stuff as easily given the crowded WTT schedule when his success needs to be historical to add anything to his reputation.

Maybe he just had been training much recently? We will whether closed training can bring his level back in the next WTTC. A lot of people said he was just getting old now.

Even with all his issues, Togami is still to me the best player on tour who is yet to make the top 10. There are a few other reasonable candidates like An Jaehyun though some like Oh Junsung, it is just age. But even with all his issues, Togami should get into the top 10 once. Too much overall skill just to never do it even once.

Well no one beat a Chinese player in Montpellier except another Chinese player.

That said, details matter so I looked at the draw. They didn't reseed the draw but just replaced Sun Yingsha with Natalia Bajor. So now, the highest seed in the top quarter is Sato but she plays Odo in her first match so this is really Odo's quarter and Odo has been gifted a semi-final spot if se plays to her normal level. There are no CNT players in that quarter.

In Miwa's quarter, she gets Chen Xingtong if she gets far enough and that might be the most favorable draw Miwa van get of all the CNT players so it looks like a good one for her.

Wang Yidi and Chen Yi in the same quarter.

Hina Hayata and Kuai Man in the same quarter. Horror stories... and Miwa and Kuai are in the same half so Miwa had better learn real fast...

These are insane draws but nothing a good paycheck won't make up for...
So it went as we both kinda thought it would and not as many assumed beforehand a with Chinese sweeping through.
Chen Yi can still have a say but Winter perhaps not a formality either.
I'll stick with Miwa as the favourite but it's really anyone's from here

MS QF
Togami WR15 4-2 Verdonschot WR40 (WC) (9, -5, 9, 6, -7, 7)
G3 24, 104, 109 TO for Togami, 119
More proof that Togami simply carried out Ueda's instructions and his mental issues remain unresolved.
G4 14, 44, 45, 105, 106, 116
G5 31, 36, 66 TO for Verdonschot, 67, 77 Verdonschot served into himself, 711
G6 20, 22, 32, 54, 55, 75, 76, 96, 97, 117

This run highlights once again the technical nature of table tennis, where a player with a really good serve only can reach this far.

ERT, as in Em Rat Thitch?

When was that fraud not the villain?

I will be eventually.
Yes ERT is TT AI slop before TD AI slop was created by Chat GPT....

Happy the possibility of your being impressed by these players exists... i think Wim suffered from being unable to surprise Togami anymore...
