  1. How important is serve variation?

It's very important. Combined with quality and accuracy is what makes a good server. I think Waldner once said in an interview that a player only needs 2-3 kind of serves and then vary their spin and placement.
  2. Japan Open 2018

Great, intense, nailbiting game! Glad to see Zhang Jike building up his form and confidence again. Harimoto is special but despite his outstanding play, I'm not sure he's making new friends. Celebrating the opponent's unforced errors is not nice.
  3. Time Boll & Patrick Franziska using Black side for FH

Don't know about tacky rubbers, but for non-tacky rubbers it's clearly a matter of preference. Personally I like black on my FH to avoid red "flashing" before my eyes when I play BH.
  4. Liam Pitchford defeats Harimoto... youngster all hype??

Pitchford is a very good player and Harimoto is too young to be mentally consistent each time. Moreover at the age of 14 the body changes all the time. Gaining a few centimeters in a few weeks for instance could change the body balance significantly for that level of competition. Ups and downs...

  6. Help

I'm not aware of wakaba 3000, but I have put rubbers on the blade of a premade Stiga bat and it was a nice new combination. It can be done, but it's kind of a gamble since we don't have info about the blade. Paste the rubbers and see how it works for you.
  7. How much do you spend on racket every year?

The last 7 years since I started playing again, I've spent 500€ for 8 blades. But I think will not buy a new blade for the next several years. Every year I use 2 pair of rubbers which is about 160€. Plus some extras (glue, side tape, balls), I would say I spend ~200€ annually.
  8. BH flip vs short serves. Going with the spin or against. Does it matter to you?

Legs-waist-arm-elbow-wrist combination allow us to play every ball in many ways regarding contact point, spin and placement. I would suggest that you/we work on different ways of receiving the ball. BH banana flick (with a faster wrist snap), flat hitting, push, bh side-brush on either side of...
  9. Cornilleau Target Pro GT Rubber Series Review

I have a pair of H-47s in my drawer and those will probably be my rubbers for the upcoming season. I liked very much the Target Force 45 and I guess the Target Pro GT versions will be as good or even better.

  11. BREAKING: Ma Long & Fan Zhendong boycott CHINA OPEN!

Huge story, indeed. I can't judge the players right or wrong as I don't know the background or the goal of their protest. We all love the players and we tend to think low of officials and bureaucrats but that doesn't necessarily make their actions right. Did LGL need to be punished? Did he need...
  12. Tomokazu Harimoto leads 10-0 and then this happened!

Personally, I think a point should deffinately be given only to a begginer or a very young player who may probably be frustrated. Even then what mostly matters is how the points are played. The young low level player should be given the chance to exchange some shots during each rally. In all...

Here are two links that might help you: http://stervinou.net/ttbdb/lexik.php , http://stervinou.net/ttbdb/compo.php. However, whether a blade is suitable for looping or not has to do with many more things than just the wood of the outer ply (weight, other plies, thickness of each ply, total...
