MS QF
Matsushima WR1 (1) 2-4 Franziska WR18 (9, -11, -8, -7, 10, -10)
G5 107, 1010 TO for Matsushima, 1210
G6 13, 23, 24, 44, 45, 65, 67, 87, 88, 98, 910, 1010, 1012

Poor form and low back pain notwithstanding, there's no denying Matsushima is going through what Harimoto experienced several years ago. He's lucky to have reached WR1 during the "interregnum" of CNT.

2 things to say after watching Franziska again tonight;
Is Franziska using his FH a lot more recently and with a lot more conviction that ever before?
And is he possibly the best TT brain on the circuit right now? I put this firmly with Ma Long before his retirement but with FZD gone I think Patrick is a real contender in a conversation for that.
Either way, the man is immense and an absolute model in his approach to everything, even in his 30s the work he puts in based on his belief and dedication to incremental gains, it's unbelievable!
So sorry to see it elude him last week in Montpellier, I would love to see him lifting this on Sunday!

The prophecy arrives.

The pandora box is open. No more CNT Sunday .

CNT has taken too many hits. They used to have such an aura of invincibility, once a player faced a CNT member they lost before the match started and back in their head already gave up and didn’t believe they had a true chance.

OTOH CNT had a self belief and confidence they would win however tough their opponent is

Now we see they are human and this generation of players can’t withstand the pressure. Didn’t see the match but poor Chen Yi. 0-4 amplified by Sabine’s unusual style and the fact she was the last one standing..

[didn’t see the match]

Only WCQ SYS WMY are a class above still but injuries and fatigue (and declining motivation after many past successes) are taking their toll. Big danger if there is no young blood coming for the CNT…

Unless of course FZD and CM make comebacks 😂
Mark my words, FZD will be back for LA 2028 😉

Just Ovtcharov 😂
Yes if you frame the question as non-CNT #1 in the WTT era but what I really mean is why him and not Felix or Harimot or LYJ... making it a matter of luck is obviously an insult to what the boy has achieved in the last 12 months, the rankings show that 2 other guys might have also enjoyed the honor (Felix and Harimoto) so these are clealry interesting times but the fact that he got it with 2 slams is hardly a matrer of luck, everyone else also had their chance.

He has also repeatedly stressed he doesn't really care about the ranking all he really wants is an Olympic gold medal. And the more ibsee him olay the more i believe him.

Absolutely agreed.
When WCQ was struck down there were even more than the two you mentioned, I would put Moregard, LYJ and Hugo in there also.

Well we already know that it's only Temperament and Mentality (and maybe a just little bit of luck😉) that present the biggest barrier based on everyones current level.
Those others that want that LA28 Gold will have to lift their games to match this guy.
And I must say I think his attitude is a general plus in his favour as staying relaxed and not tensing up is not easy for many players but this guy more often than not does very well in that regard. He just sometimes seems to switch off and occasionally look lost in matches. An even stronger relationship with his coaches ( I'm not sure he listens enough at times) and a bit more experience should see, if not all, then at least a few of the career slam titles come his way

It is tough to predict any match, except maybe that Odo will beat Winter?

This might be the first time in WTT history that we have a Japanese player in both halves of the semi-finals of both men and women. The potential exists for an all Japan Finals in both women and men, but the potential is much higher on the women's side.

I notice Hina performance has improved ever since her coach started writing in his notebook. He never use to do this until the Montpellier Champions event whether this was his decision or Hina I’m not too sure. Whatever he’s writing in the notebook its working.

Patrick has not been using Jorg as his coach for Montpellier and now Frankfurt but his performances have been much better ever since he is using the Germany assistant coach instead.

Haha, good observation, but it is correlation, not causation.

Watched the highlights of the Matsushima - Franziska match partially. Franziska started the match using the black rubber for his FH. Trailing 3:5 in Game 2, he switched and used the red rubber for his FH until the end.
Maybe it is Zyre on both sides?
Or does he use two different rubbers?
