  1. Medium Pips... for?

Not well from what I've experienced. Especially against top spin! The LP returns the ball with back spin (when receiving a top spin), so your attacks are prone to floating long. I get this effect with the medium pips at times (floating long), so I was curious if that is their main function: to...
  2. Medium Pips... for?

I've been doing some tinkering with medium pips, but am a little confused as to how they 'should' be played! My game style is a close to the table blocker/looper on the backhand side and a blocker/hitter on the forehand. Would they be a good fit? They don't really have enough spin reversal to...
  3. Is Ma Long alcoholic ?

I used to play at a table in a bar -- people seemed to like to drink WHILE playing!
  4. Crazy Siva vs Fan Zhendong Unbelievable Roller Shot Challenge

Concurred. OP's video appeared to be an unsuccessful parody, rather than a worthy shot.
  5. OX Long Pips vs Sponge LP for Close to Table Blocking/Hitting

Is there a normal preference for either using OX or sponged LP for close to the table blocks? Advantages/disadvantages of each one? I've seen conflicting accounts on the topic. Some say OX gives more control, and others say the sponge helps slow the ball down for even more control... I'm looking...
  6. How critical is an over-sized blade for defending/chopping?

Is an oversized blade a "must-have" for defenders? Or do any defenders use a normal or slightly oversized blade? And on that note, are there any moderately oversized blades that are good for defense? Possibly around the low 160s x mid to high 150s?
  7. Is over celebrating a problem in table tennis?

It's pretty lame. Though it seems mainly the younger players do this, and as they get older it tapers off. Even Zhang Jike used to be quite a hollerer! Shouting in TT is made even worse because there are so many points in such a short span of time...
  8. Butterfly Tiago Apolonia ZLC Blade Review!

Hypothetically speaking, let's say I had an IF layer ZLC in my shopping cart, what did butterfly do to the blade that makes it so terrible?
  9. Question about blocking...

That pudgy old guy who was losing in the Swedish leagues recently? Yeah, I've seen a game or two of his by accident I think.
  10. Question about blocking...

So it looks like, due to the long pip design, that top spin blocks come back a bit slower from the backspin/reversal. But the long pips can return a faster 'surprise' top spin smack when returning backspin or pushes. That's the one real shot I enjoyed when using long pips. That "punch" hit on...
  11. Question about blocking...

That's part of my concern. I've been doing inverted blocks for a number of years now, and have gotten decently proficient with them! I'm wondering if it's worth trying out the LPs. Would the end result be something I'd like etc. I've been tinkering around with them, and they are certainly...
  12. Question about blocking...

So then, would it be fair to say that the LP setups are done mainly through spin/pace variation? And the inverted/sp mainlt through angles and outright speed? I know LPs can block to the angles also, but it seems their slow pace allows your opponent (assuming they have decent mobility...) to...
  13. Question about blocking...

I've been trying to cultivate a more blocking centered style, and have a few questions on the types of rubbers to use. The blockers I enjoy watching are Oh Sang Eun, Kenta M, He Zhi Wen, and Zhang Yining to give you an idea of how I'd like to play. Although I also enjoy a number of the lower...
  14. Thoughts on Playstyle?

Do you ever help people practice? I would think learning to block (feeding) would come quite naturally when drilling with other players, especially as they practice their top spin. Tell them to loop as hard as they can, and you'll block it back!
  15. Liu Shiwen | Fukuhara AI PRO ZLF| Timo Boll ZLF

The liu shiwen is pretty close to the innerforce LAYER alc. It's got great control and nice dwell time. Fairly slow though, as I use one to chop with now and again. And yet, when you ramp up the speed... the blade goes right along with you for the ride! It's wonderful for looping and all that...
