  1. Hosting a TTD community tournament in Germany

I'll get a couple of players to come along and also have a crack myself hopefully. There is beer involved ..... ? Cheers
  2. For those who think pips have a ceiling

Anybody know the rankings of these 2 players? Fair play if this is another real upset. If it's a case of better ranked player beats lower ranked player. Isn't it an expected win?. Edit... Around Top 50 player looks to have beaten top 135 player.. Surely expected win in the final? Reading...
  3. I hate you long-pimple blocker....

Tricky match for you. If it's OK to ask... What was your game plan?. How do you feel you executed it? What could you improve in things like returning serve, backhand open ups or backhand returns, ball placement and your movement etc. Also maybe your return of serve position.
  4. For those who think pips have a ceiling

Great achievement at any age to be fair. Even more so at 60. Unfortunately it's the very minority of players who can compete at this level at this age. Its a true testimonial to great play. It would be interesting to see the number of pips players overall who win events. I'm guessing it's...
  5. Yeah! Baby yeah! Let's go retro. Retro is the new sexy!

Lars and Tony is a cracking match and a great choice to show off the skill needed to play HB BB. Thanks for sharing. Good to see that again.
  6. Returning heavy topspin serves - short and long kick serve

A good starting video to look at long serves might be from Seth Pech who did a video with a Cech champions league player a while back. It'll give a pretty fair idea to work with. Take a look at the timestamp for kick service. Links below. Cheers
  7. Should I use a long pimple rubber? If so, which one?

Another one of the great combination attacking players in the day who played for England was Carl Prean. Amazing hands and reached a high world ranking. If people aren't aware look him up. Carl was one of the very very few to be able to play like this at a world level. The issue is it's a very...
  8. Table Tennis Dilemma: Strengthening Backhand or Changing Playstyle? [I chose strengthening]

Is this the norm or the exception of a LP player?. I would think the exception.
  9. Table Tennis Dilemma: Strengthening Backhand or Changing Playstyle? [I chose strengthening]

Agreed NL. The other issues could be producing the speed off the LP to stop a counter Not trying to hijack this thread with another how easy pips are to play with and how hard they are to play again btw. Hoping OP finds and develops the backhand. Be good to see.
  10. Table Tennis Dilemma: Strengthening Backhand or Changing Playstyle? [I chose strengthening]

I think the key here is low backspin in the previous comment to be honest and creating arc off that low backspin ball to get it over the net. The next ball has to be a lift as it will be below net height which leaves an opening for that stronger topspin.
  11. Table Tennis Dilemma: Strengthening Backhand or Changing Playstyle? [I chose strengthening]

There will always be an inherent weakness with LP/Anti among the masses. That's why numbers of users is not high at the lower and higher levels. Out of experience playing I've definitely found LP/Anti players at BL/ County in the UK/Europe to be very few and far between. Especially when...
  12. Table Tennis Dilemma: Strengthening Backhand or Changing Playstyle? [I chose strengthening]

Definitely progress with working on your backhand topspin. The time you spend on improving it will be beneficial in the long run I'd hope. You have on paper a nice rounded game. With the introduction of an extra backhand stroke(s) things will hopefully gel and you will be able to play the game...
  13. Tactics when your loop gets chopblocked

Variation is king to unsettle the player. Get them to move and keep them off balance as much as you can. Once these players get into a rhythm it’s pretty hard to claw things back. Worst it’s easy to lose a lot of points quickly. Others have said it’s about sometimes getting the ball back on the...
  14. What are your TT goals for 2024?

Hi Dan, Getting a wide variety of knocking partners/practical match play at a good level is tricky. Guessing you know the TTD lads games inside out a bit. You should get some of the forum guys down! Jump in the cars and have a mass knock or even TTD vs TTD forum.... 😊 Or TTD VS TTE GP's...
  15. What are your TT goals for 2024?

3 times a week quality practice is the magic number for making that leap and improving to another level again. You have the pod now and the gents to train with so no doubt thats on the cards!.
  16. Is your club organizing a Year-end Tournament?

Nothing end of year competition wise but did catch up and have a friendly hit with a couple of the forum members at two of the venues over Christmas. Great time had by all I will say 😊
  17. What are your TT goals for 2024?

To stay up in our Division and not make the drop down to the lower division. To be able to field a full squad in the process as well would help...
  18. Losing pretty instead of winning ugly

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder on these things. For me there's little that's more exciting than seeing a good defender vs a good attacker. Then again 2 guys pushing for hours... Not so exciting agree.
  19. Losing pretty instead of winning ugly

For training and practice matches definitely 1000% progress, work on techniques, strokes and tactics. Then slowly bring them into the game. It's a bit by bit introduction of these things into serious match play. It can take months and some to adopt a new skill, stroke, transition etc into high...
  20. What does your Match day preparation look like?

Deciding not to do that last double shot the night before.... Checking how close the field I wake up in is from the venue... Oh and bat... Bat is handy... There was one time I arrived without it... But that's a different story... On all seriousness there's definitely things that make the day...
