  1. New rubber from yasaka. Shining Dragon

Yes very expensive, especially considering it's made in China! Made in China is certainly not necessarily bad, but the cost to make it would no doubt be considerably less, which should be reflected in the retail price IMO.
  2. Jean Michel Saive vs Thomas Weikert - Who would you vote for?

As some of you would know already, in May 2017 there will be an election for ITTF president, and so far the 2 candidates are Jean-michel Saive and current (un-elected) president Thomas Weikert. If you had a vote (unfortunately individuals don't, only National Associations do), who would you...
  3. Tearing my hair out with OX rubber

Which glue did you use? You didn't actually say :o I always use the thinner glues, those that come in the little 25g bottle with the sponge on top, like Donic Formula, Xiom I-bond, etc. These are quite strong, and thin enough so that no lumps show through for OX rubbers. I use a couple of layers...
  4. Can an App improve your Table Tennis? Interview with Brett Clarke from ttEDGE

The new IOS version is available too now. You can now just observe and study the serves, in real time or slo-mo... a great way to learn.
  5. Can an App improve your Table Tennis? Interview with Brett Clarke from ttEDGE

It's a free download, and comes with some free modules (making it already worthwhile), but to get the full version with many additional modules (and future ones) you need to pay. I'd recommend you check it out for yourself... see if it's worthwhile for you.
  6. Can an App improve your Table Tennis? Interview with Brett Clarke from ttEDGE

For those of you that may not have seen it, the ttEDGE App is very impressive, and well worth checking out! I'm convinced it's actually helping my game, which is pretty imazing for an App. The ttEDGE crew keep adding impressive new modules as well. I've been so impressed with the App, that I...
  7. durability of donic bluefire jp01 turbo

Durability depends very much on you, and how sensitive you are to (slow) changes in the characteristics. I know people who get 2 years out of a Bluefire, others that change every 2 months or so. If you always need to high grip that the new rubbe comes with, you might have to change more often...
  8. Durability of 999 rubbers

The secret is to always keep it clean, and you MUST put the plastic protection sheet on. This will keep it tacky for years.
  9. Your tip/s for cutting rubbers neatly?

While I agree with you, I actually find it easier to cut with a knife. With scissors you need to be really careful not to lift the rubber on the edge while you're cutting, because with WBG (unlike VOC glue), you can't push it down again and make it stick. As long as you push down on the rubber...
  10. Sealing with Polyurethane sealent?

I've used a water-based polyurethane sealer before as well, but it was only available in larger tins, so this seemed a bit of a waste. It seemed to work fine as well, and of course no nasty fumes and easier to clean up.
  11. Your tip/s for cutting rubbers neatly?

I was referring to most of the posts that followed, including my own. :o
  12. Sealing with Polyurethane sealent?

It seems Minwax is not commonly available everywhere, as I've not seen it in Australia. Still there are plenty of other good ones.
  13. Your tip/s for cutting rubbers neatly?

No, I think most of us glue first, then cut. If the knife is sharp the cut is usually perfect. If you cut first before glueing, then the alignment is too hard to get perfect.
  14. Your tip/s for cutting rubbers neatly?

I use a 18mm 'box-cutter' knife, and also cut right along the blade edge after gluing. This gives me the best result too.
  15. Sealing with Polyurethane sealent?

I use it regularly, but only a very thin coats as others have already suggested. Unlike the TT sealers that are sold, the polyurethane is waterproof, although such a thin layer will only offer some protection against water. I'm not sure if a spray can will help. Perhaps spray on a little then...
  16. Looking for Vega Pro substitute....

Vega Japan is like a more lively version of Vega Pro.. that might give you what you're looking for.
  17. Equipment Reviews on TT forums

LOL, like the Schildkrot review?:D I agree.. humour can add to a review... and some people have a way with words  Comparisons I find the most useful personally, especially if I'm familiar with the rubber being compared to. To me a review is certainly worth a lot more than just ratings...
  18. Which plastic ball has your club chosen?

If the prices in Australia are any indication, the Butterfly 40+ are quite expensive, like at least double the price. I'm not sure who makes them, but they're also Chinese-made, probably by Double Fish.
  19. Equipment Reviews on TT forums

I always thought Mark V and Sriver were excellent benchmarks, as they have been around 'forever', but I think the latest generation has probably not even tried them. Tenergy is probably a good modern benchmark, but I think it's too expensive for a lot of amateur players (like most of us) and...
