  2. Just curious how many Penholders are on TTD?

Perhaps the extended fingers grip is awkward for me because my TPB "punch" (i learnt it being called "push-block" as in pushing something and not TT pushing which the downspin short game) was taught with the thumb doing like snapping your fingers motion. The thumb "snapping" angles the racket...
  3. Just curious how many Penholders are on TTD?

Belated welcome to the thread Flathitter!First time I've heard of a PH grip with thumb on the back! Will you continue with that grip when you switch to JPen?What aspects of the game does your grip help, if any?? What aspects of your game does it hurt, if any? Have you tried other grips before?
  4. Just curious how many Penholders are on TTD?

Great match, dynamic CPEN! Thank you for the video! Interesting on his grip. Watching at work, meaning I should not be watching LOL, it seems his grip has somewhat extended fingers. At 1:52 we see his grip. He RPBs occasionally and lots of TPB. Wonder if he switches grip for TPB. I for one...
  5. Just curious how many Penholders are on TTD?

This does look interesting!! Thank you for posting the video! For any TPB players, this may be a good intermediate step/stroke to learning RPB proper should a player use 2 rubbers. For one rubber, this looks like it adds a dimension to the TPB gameplay that may be unexpected for the opponent.

  9. Do you use motivational self talk?

Hello: I started playing in my teens for 8 to 10 yrs or so. I was a better player in games than practice back then. Then retired from the game focusing on college, career and starting a family. Took a 32 year break. Unretired and started playing again. Lost a lot of my gameplay/game mentality...

LOLOL Thank you Carl for the heads up! ........ Quotes from The Unfettered Mind Writings of the Zen master to the sword master (by Takuan Soho) If you do not train in technique, but only fill your breast with principle, your body and your hands will not function. Training in technique, if...
  13. Table tennis vs road cycling and what we know from science

In martial arts, it is called "no-mindedness", and specifically in Japanese MA, it is 'mushin'. In sports, it can be called "flow" or "in the zone". Although muscles have no memory, the term "muscle memory" stuck. "Motor memory" may be a better term. A beginner needs to drill enough to get the...
  14. Table tennis vs road cycling and what we know from science

Beat me to it! NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) teaches that people process information in 3 primary ways: visual, auditory and kinesthetic. A good instructor/coach will be able to tell which primary mode a student learns and be able to deliver the teacher via that mode to sync up. Perhaps...

Related but unrelated: Using boxing as an example, take 2 famous coaching greats: Cus D'Amato and Emmanuel Steward. Steward would work with a boxer and check out his strengths and weaknesses and then adapt his coaching to the student, that is, Steward took the boxer/individual in question and...

DTTCCers! Hope all are healthy and safe! I didn't update on my gear change. I don't recall the exact name(s) and when I have a chance I will post pix. Stopped using my Taksim carbon blade and went to a Stiga wood CPen. Don't recall name, it had a hollow handle. Some kind of technology making...
