Definitely sanding .... the blades are made from soft woods so there will be no problem .... i suggest to use 120 grain in beginning if you want to grind more and finish with 400 grain . And yes draw a shape before you start .

Yes but when you are amateur player you have to learn basic stuff first and not to go like pro .... trust me most of pro players have bath habits which are not good for beginners and it is not good for beginners to repeat them according they play if you want to learn it properly. The bad habits...
