  1. Kim Jung Hoon FH Topspin Lesson with Div 4 city player

hahahaha -- NO WAY!! The main takeaways from you that I got this past weekend besides the drilling of the 3rd topspin loop/5th attack tactic was that you kept track of 'important stuff and process' ... i didn't approach the matchplay in that way per se. At least not to the point of actually...

DAYUM! I was thinking the LP was used like a BH chopping stroke and not RPB! i used to use phantom in a bh chopping motion to compensate for weakness of serve receive or the just in case emergency a wide shot hit to my bh and i can't reach in time so i use the bh chopping motion for slight reach...

Ah ok, somehow i may have misread the death wand swap thread ... knowing Carl is as SH, and seeing you post sometimes about PH stuff, i thought maybe you played both SH and PH. I get you now on the rubber and why it's longer. LOL at me... sorry about that!

I have no backhand whatsoever ... that is a bh stroke/smash ... on my bh side, i only block, punch or push. I will try the RPB from time to time for fun, but for serious training, i will hold off until i can be consistent with my game.

As you know Liten, i'm new here, still kind of finding my way here and getting to know the members... are you a penholder only player or do you sometimes play shakehands? I ask only because generally ph's will cut their rubbers to give their fingers a little space.

Der_Echte is not joking about his memory! Some months ago, we played a doubles match ... and I was keeping score out loud but as it was close to midnight, i was a little tired and had the score wrong... immediately Der said that's wrong, it can't be that, it's either this or that, because our...

LOL -- ok, i will try out the LP then... but only after i try out the short pips. Thank you Liten!
  8. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

The long pips is an idea that is in the deep recesses of my pea brain. Ages ago, i tried Phantom on the back to compensate for my then-and-now-still poor serve receive. But it became a "crutch" and i took it off, trying to improve my serve receive instead. If nothing else, I will put on the long...

Hick's Law, Bruce Lee's Choice Reaction and the RPB Thank you Carl for the videos. I'm a little curious how the RPB plays having watched Liu Guo-liang, Ma Lin and of course Wang Hao. It will give me a tool to answer certain challenges which I've not overcome yet with just a punch, block or...

I don't know if i ever will twiddle in the middle of a point, but in time, I may be able to if i keep training it. Twiddling for now means i will use the smooth side when i serve to get the spinnier serves and perhaps 3rd ball looping I will use the pips side on serve receive. At some point...

Punch/push-block and 'minimum effort, maximum efficiency' Agreed that the punch is a BH "stroke", perhaps "technique" is a better substitute for 'stroke'. I may be misunderstanding both your and Carl's definition of "TPB". I'm thinking it means traditional penhold backhand (BH)... BH for me...

I sometimes don't listen to 42&bp LOL but I'm willing to try pips only play ... always have been in the back of my mind. In some older reply by you to me, you mentioned i may be better off switching to pips only. Now with the Amazon, I may try out the twiddling between smooth and pips. As...

Back in the 80's, a clubmate played PH with an oldschool blue pips - forgot color of sponge ... want to say orange... anyway, he was a 1900 player, had a huge FH smash and a BH smash... his grip though was unorthodox... on the back, he would spread his fingers like a martial arts tiger claw hand...

Chatted last night with 42andbackpains, he thinks I may not like the short pips, as i've played very long with inverted. Despite starting off with pips, and my inverted game is mostly pips-type of game style, I'm going to borrow one of his old pips and try it out.
  15. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I may put long pips as Der suggested in his nyc thread or I may put short pips and go back to my roots lol the short pips may be my fh and I go the Liu Guo Liang way and embrace the modern ph style Or just use one side with the other to give it weight, but 2 inverted is too heavy for me now...

Unless I'm not getting you... er, no, the weight is NOT there with TPB as it's a single rubber. With modern PH, it's 2 rubbers and the weight IS there. Re: mid-life crisis ... "The years teach much which the days never know." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson I'm looking at the videos of myself and never...

Archo, Although what you say is generally true for anything - over time the body will adapt and overcome .... HOWEVER ... Please understand that when i was very active in table tennis over 30 yrs ago, i was used to the weight of a single sheet, then 30 yrs of working with computers and...
