Umpire was great there. If you watch the replay, the umpire was clearly watching for edge contact. When it hit the side she immediately signalled side and, as you said, was firm about it with no room for argument. From my POV, both calls were correct.
  2. Europe Smash Sweden August 14-24 2025

Big win for the Singaporeans Pang/Quek over Liang/Wen. Upsets continue even on the MD side.
  3. Europe Smash Sweden August 14-24 2025

Harimoto was a huge favorite over AJH for some reason. Was able to get +500 odds on him. Great performance and shot making when it counted. Togami again proving he's a glass cannon. Has unlimited power still doesn't know how to reign it in. The 3-0 against LYJ and the 11-1 and 11-2 games...
  4. Europe Smash Sweden August 14-24 2025

Lind/Diaz just played one of the most crazy doubles points I've ever seen at 7:7 in Game 3
  5. Europe Smash Sweden August 14-24 2025

It's almost as if they're both getting better and the whole surpassing premise is flawed. No no....that doesn't make sense. One's success has to mean the other's failure!
  6. Europe Smash Sweden August 14-24 2025

She missed a few finishing shots she clearly set up it looked like. Aside from the first game drubbing, that could've been the difference between the typical 'somewhat close loss' to Hayata and what we saw. Would've at least gotten game 2. That said, she did look a little listless out there in...
  7. Europe Smash Sweden August 14-24 2025

At this point, I'm going to just blindly bet on any player that TTD deems has been surpassed or needs to retire. Seems like a good way to profit lol
  8. Chinese Women! What would be their ranking if they were men?

I'm not following the logic used to get to this conclusion. If France doesn't have more than 100 male players that aren't at the level of one of their female players, that could just be because of a lack of players at a pro/semi-pro level. If you extend rankings to the rest of the world...
  9. Europe Smash Sweden August 14-24 2025

In Doha Finals, Ionescu successfully challenged Noshad's serve 3 times. It's worth watching that because Noshad starts arguing with the ref and says it's impossible to serve without hiding the ball. It's hilarious.
  10. Chinese Women! What would be their ranking if they were men?

While the physical differences probably is enough to explain the gap, another thing that hasn't been mentioned is that there are just far more men playing table tennis than women, and therefore a much bigger talent pool to draw from.
  11. Europe Smash Sweden August 14-24 2025

Dang Qiu just turned a deciding game around with TTR challenges. Down 4-8, he goes to challenge one of Groth's serves for being hidden. Wins the next 4 to bring it to 9-8. At 9-8 he challenges AGAIN and wins. 10-8. I would assume some of Groth's serves were illegal earlier, so if Dang...
  12. Chinese Women! What would be their ranking if they were men?

It's relevant because (1) it's a male vs female match and (2) it involves SYS. It might not be determinative because it happened a while ago. But it might be the ONLY relevant piece of information for this specific discussion. You're welcome to come up with any other data points where SYS...
  13. Europe Smash Sweden August 14-24 2025

This pairing already paying off in the entertainment department. Commentator earlier mentioned an interview Adriana Diaz gave about Lind. She apparently said that she has had to limit Lind's energy drink intake prior to their matches in order to chill him out a bit. This is hilarious and...
  14. Europe Smash Sweden August 14-24 2025

I've never seen Honoka play so many continuous forehand shots in a match before. Great to see her leaning into her offensive game more as a mix-up. There was another amazing point earlier in the match where she hit 5 straight big FHs in a row.
  15. Europe Smash Sweden August 14-24 2025

Anyone else finding this better lit and more color-filled "Renaissance Arena" way more pleasing to the eye the "Infinity Arena"? The production quality also back on track after the sub-par 480p Yokohama event. Remember Harimoto glitching out in the semi-finals? haha
  16. Europe Smash Sweden August 14-24 2025

What's the story behind this Diaz/Lind pairing? Not complaining, I really like it. Both weird playing styles with attitude lol
  17. WTT Champions Japan 2025 - 7-11 Aug 2025

WCQ was a -600 favorite against Harimoto coming into the match. Those are the odds from the bookmakers and equates to an implied odds of 85% WCQ victory. Just to be fair, TB should be offering at least $100 to everyone's $20. But betting on the future is completely besides the point, since...
  18. WTT Champions Japan 2025 - 7-11 Aug 2025

This is completely non-responsive to what people are arguing, which makes me think you aren't even trying to understand people's points. The fact that Harimoto beat WCQ with his tactics and gameplay yesterday, doesn't mean he's more talented or will have a more successful career than WCQ. And...
  19. A new Atletico power blade?

    ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
  20. WTT Champions Japan 2025 - 7-11 Aug 2025

This is a bizarre take. If Steph Curry is shooting 2 for 14 from 3 point on a night, it might be partially due to having a "bad night." But it's almost certainly going to be significantly due to the circumstances around each shot. Is the guy guarding him getting a hand in his face? Is he being...
