  1. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I have a one week break from relatives visiting so I went to the club yesterday. I have settled on the Cybershape Carbon as my main blade, I suspect its handle just suits me better but I am not mentally ready to hack my Trinity handles. And i think something about Koto outer plies is beginning...
  2. Backhand smash tips

I guess the ease of looping low balls compensates. 🤣
  3. Backhand smash tips

Give us a break, the advice to pivot and use the forehand on high balls is as old as the 38mm ball. Learning to use your backhand to handle more balls is never a bad thing as long as your shot selection is still good. Or maybe Ma Long should never do chop block, he should just work on his...
  4. Backhand smash tips

I have explained it so many times, including on the thread that zeio just referenced here from 4 years ago. If you couldn't understand my explanation then, I have little motivation to explain it now. But the logic is simple and Ttgold on that thread makes the point clearly as well so you can...
  5. Backhand smash tips

Nah, don't give pros credit for always having optimal technique. That isn't the reason why they are pros. That said. Not sure height is the issue. Benedict Olah I think smashes with the beat of them and he is pretty tall too.
  6. Backhand smash tips

It's exactly the kind of thing that the people who claim that follow through doesn't affect ball quality have no way of explaining.
  7. What’s your most satisfying moment in table tennis?

Father time is undefeated. But I will fight... :ROFLMAO: I got to around 200lbs during Covid... this was 3 years ago - most of the weight gain happened after I had kids and started eating junk with my wife and playing less because of injuries lol... But then I started trying to build muscle...
  8. What’s your most satisfying moment in table tennis?

Mark was around 1800 then (his max was around 2000), and I was around 1500-1600 after about a year a few months of training - this match was in October 2012. He is around 1500-1600 now but Father time is undefeated and the cool thing about TT is that it keeps you going. Living in Philly and...
  9. What’s your most satisfying moment in table tennis?

No, I don't think he was. My teammates and coach were watching so you can see me motioning towards them a few times. Berg beat me in a rematch later in the day in another event. That was the last time he beat me though, I later could beat him in a variety of ways. I would probably topspin...
  10. Backhand smash tips

It is a good example of how conceptual and technical transfer from forehand to backhand can make a stroke better. It's one of the reasons I recommend using the same rubber on both sides while one is in the Larry learning stages up to even USATT 1600, so that this technical transfer is easier.
  11. What’s your most satisfying moment in table tennis?

It was the original official location of a club called Trolley Car table tennis Club in Philadelphia. They moved to a different space in the same location that wasn't as great. But it is still the primary full time club in Philly though some other places are available to play.
  12. What’s your most satisfying moment in table tennis?

Since you asked: The opponent uses worn out inverted on forehand and anti on backhand so his balls don't really spin. Therefore, almost all the balls you see in that match are flat. Also, this was the 40mm celluloid ball and you could get away with much more without using the body correctly...
  13. D09c BH on HL5 ?

Yeah, 09c requires bigger swings on the backhands, the kind of guy who uses it there is the kind of guy (like me) who would like tacky rubber on the backhand, definitely not for everyone. I am sure if I trained a lot more, I might get out of tacky rubber on backhand to be honest.
  14. Good bye.

I don't have that level of insight, lol. When it comes to blades, I am pretty unsophisticated, I just know whether it is generally an attacking/looping blade or a smashing/blocking blade or a chopping blade based on the speed/frequency. I just put down the differences in a specific blade made...
  15. Good bye.

Super ALC - why go ALC when you can Super! Why be a man when you can be a Super man!
  16. Good bye.

Not about how it looks, but about how it plays.
  17. How Did I Win or Lose a Match?

In table tennis, even with limited practice time, there is nothing wrong with messing around a little if you can afford it. A serve is a serve, as long as you practice it and can get good results with it, it doesn't matter what the serve looks like. The key thing about most good serving is...
  18. How Did I Win or Lose a Match?

It isn't heavy topspin. It is just topspin (or more often sidespin or side topspin) that stays short and because it stays short and has deceptive fakes invites naive people to push it like backspin. Wrighty can share a video for sure. There should be decent tutorials on the internet as...
  19. Quadri Aruna and Bernie Szcocs

Thia is tough. A reminder that celebrities are regular people in many ways.
