  1. Tokyo 2020 | 2020/7/24-8/9

The players who showed up deserved their spots no doubt. Hugo continues to be a head scratcher, beating Jang Woojin but can't finish games vs Dima. At least we know Harimoto's problem (he doesn't have the footwork and forehand mentality to seize the point). What is Hugo's excuse? Poor mental...

Dima knows how to get into his head - this has happened in their past matches as well.
  3. Tokyo 2020 | 2020/7/24-8/9

Lin won't be bringing something that Fan hasn't seen before but his return of serve was relentless. But that is what the CNT staff and training us for - they have players who can replicate that level if aggression in practice. Even Ma Long would be adequately prepared to deal with it. Though...
  4. Tokyo 2020 | 2020/7/24-8/9

I think this was more than that though. He probably fell apart because of the relentless pressure that Lin put on his serves.
  5. Tokyo 2020 | 2020/7/24-8/9

He lost to Boll as well. Maybe his next project is to get into a room with Freitas and figure it out. But the kid is good and he is likely to dominate Europe for a while.
  6. Tokyo 2020 | 2020/7/24-8/9

This is true, the backhand serve won't affect Lin the same way. The attacks were relentless though.
  7. Tokyo 2020 | 2020/7/24-8/9

Lin attacked Jorgic's serves extremely hard. Jorgic was on the back foot throughout the match. Couldn't return serve, couldn't play behind his serve, just couldn't get into rallies in neutral. Lin showed there was a flaw in Jorgic's half long serves that Harimoto wasn't picking up (and possibly...

She has beaten too many good players with relative ease to put anything past her at this point. The Chinese will really study her game. She has been off the radar for so long....
  9. Tokyo 2020 | 2020/7/24-8/9

Ishikawa definitely ready to retire ..
  10. Tokyo 2020 | 2020/7/24-8/9

Exactly. He lost to a good player. It isn't what he wanted, but it was what he could do.
  11. Tokyo 2020 | 2020/7/24-8/9

This wasn't that kind of game. This game was more 50-50. It was never like Harimoto felt he lost control. He lost the critical points at the end of game 6 and 7. What you are describing is the kind of thing that happens when the opponent beats you badly in the first two or 3 games and you...
  12. Tokyo 2020 | 2020/7/24-8/9

Doha is not WTTC or Olympics. Harimoto did not lose 0-4 or 1-4 or even 2-4. He lost tight games to an opponent who matched up well with his skills. Big difference. No doubt Harimoto is the better player but the margin is not enough to escape the possibility of loss. Over time, I think people...
  13. Tokyo 2020 | 2020/7/24-8/9

Darko is a really high quality player - Harimoto has limitations, but there is no reason Darko can't beat him. Harimoto is not that much better especially since Darko improved his backhand countering game.
  14. Tokyo 2020 | 2020/7/24-8/9

It is the lack of footwork and forehand under pressure. He doesn't have the tools to take the point into his own hands. Jorgic on the other hand knows that his opening is going to kill you. The difference in raw power was visible to me.
  15. Tokyo 2020 | 2020/7/24-8/9

He (Harimoto) lost to a really skillful opponent - the QF will be interesting for sure.
  16. Tokyo 2020 | 2020/7/24-8/9

    NBColympics.com and Comcast/Xfinity etc.
  17. Tokyo 2020 | 2020/7/24-8/9

Not just the pressure - Darko is a really powerful player.
  18. Tokyo 2020 | 2020/7/24-8/9

This is the only event that they had a risk of losing gold in (because of the gap in skill vs the #2 team and they have only one entry). The others are far less risky. Even upsets won't cost them gold in the others.
  19. Tokyo 2020 | 2020/7/24-8/9

This is the biggest win of Mizutani's career and will probably be the thing he is most remembered for in a stellar career. Feels crazy saying that but that shows you how big it is.
  20. Tokyo 2020 | 2020/7/24-8/9

You celebrate the points you win. You can apologize for the nets and edges as well after.
